Congrats to Rex on his adoption May 17, 2021!
PUPDATE 2
Rex is doing great settling into his foster home, getting a little more comfortable around the other dogs and doing much better while eating! He hasn't shown any resource guarding issues in several days, with consistent work. He does well with the other dogs and getting treats together as well. Rex is finally learning how to PLAY, and boy does he love to! Playing with the other dogs and toys out in the yard, he'll entertain himself with play time and loves getting his spunk out. He's great out of the kennel and doesn't show interest in chewing on any non-toys which is a relief. Rex is the perfect size dog for anyone with a smaller home, as he's small and low maintenance. He's ready to find a new family to learn to love and trust!
PUPDATE 1
Rex is a great little dog! He took a little time to warm up and is understandably a little skeptical of new people. With patience and slow intros, he does great! Rex loves getting his zoomies out with the other dogs otherwise does great with a dog bed in the house and doesn't cause any trouble, he's a great puppy with less of the puppy problems!
He is skeptical of new people. With his past, Rex will need time and patience to get used to new people in any scenarios. To peak his curiosity anyone visiting in the home we play the "ignore Rex" game and he gets curious who his new friend is.
Rex has not interacted directly with children while in his Wisconsin foster home, but he is calm and should do good with quieter children.
Rex has medium energy and seems content sleeping in his kennel, on a dog bed or the couch during the day. He will run around the big backyard and play with his foster siblings. Short walks are all Rex goes on so far, he is timid and getting a little more curious about the world with time.
He does great with all six dogs he's currently living with. Rex learned how to play with them, and when they want to be left alone. He's seen a few other dogs on walks and doesn't seem to mind them. Rex has no exposure to cats.
He does resource guard his food when eating. Rex eats in his kennel but will growl at resident dogs. It’s an easy fix for resource guarding food!
Rex does great alone! He's kenneled now and settles in quietly. He would probably do find left loose as well.
The Wisconsin vet noted Rex has some tartar accumulation present and he will need a dental in the next 1-2 years. In the meantime, dental treats can help slow any new tartar accumulation.
Rex is a great little boy, his past is still with him but fading as he learns to trust humans again. He would do great with a patient new family who can let him settle in and then introduce him to the world again. He would do good as an only dog or with other dogs in the house.
