Updates

PUPDATE 3

Wow! It's been a month with her new foster mama and papa, and Zoi is thriving! She has discovered her love of tennis balls, playing tug with mom, wrestling with her foster brothers, and making new doggie friends! She's an expert at sit and has learned that doors opening and people coming out of rooms is actually totally ok!

Zoi's come a long way with strangers; she's definitely still hesitant and will give a few barks of unease, but once the strangers sit down, she works up the courage to come sniff and get some yummy treats. If they sit on a couch next to her, it's no time until snuggles ensue!

Now that she's more comfortable, Zoi LOVES to chase familiar people around the yard, play fetch (though she's not quite mastered the whole drop the ball thing yet), and snuggle on a picnic blanket. Zoi has also had the chance to meet a bunch more dog friends and she has loved them all! Zoi's very good at taking cues from other dogs and will play with others however they prefer to play, which is pretty amazing for a 6 month old puppy!

This sweet girl can't wait for her forever family to find her so she can just keep growing into the fun-loving, snuggle bug doggo she's going to be!

PUPDATE 2

Since Zoi had been loving daycare so much, her foster and foster partner decided she might gain more confidence in a foster home with other doggie role models. On Saturday, April 18th, Zoi moved into a foster home that has two dogs, a fenced in backyard, and is a house rather than an apartment. Zoi was very nervous about the move at first, like most dogs are in a new environment. She spent a lot of her first few days on the couch keeping an eye on what the people and other dogs were doing. She was very anxious about going through doorways (they're scary! Who knows what on the other side?!), so foster mom did a lot of teaching with treats and a calm voice. It was especially helpful for Zoi to see the other dogs doing things first, and then she knew it was safe to follow.

It's been almost a week since transitioning Zoi into a house with other dogs, and her confidence has soared! She now willingly goes in and outside to potty, in and out of her crate, and plays tug and tackle with the people and other dogs. She loves to chase the other dogs, hang out outside (though, she gets nervous when she hears unexpected noises), roam the house, and chew on all the toys! Zoi is fully potty trained and crate trained. She sleeps through the night in her crate (from 10pm - 5am) and hangs out in there during the work week just fine! Zoi LOVES food and is willing to try all sorts of new tricks for a yummy treat. New environments and loud noises continue to scare her, but she's really working hard at being brave! She would love a home with patient parents, a doggie sibling, older kids to play with, and/or space to run in a yard!

Coming soon on Zoi's list of adventures: more walking on a leash practice and meeting a few new strangers!

PUPDATE 1

Sweet baby Zoi has been in Wisconsin for two weeks now and every day has been a little bit different. She was pretty scared after the long drive up here and it's taken a bit to get her out of her shell. She is a very quick learner, and when she is coaxed into doing something once she's much more likely to do it on her own in the future. Zoi has not been having accidents in the house, but she isn't usually very excited to leave her cozy crate to go potty. She is sleeping through the night and usually only goes out to potty three or four times a day. On weekdays Zoi has been attending doggy daycare. She gets very scared on the car ride over, but as soon as she gets there her tail is wagging because she loves other dogs so much.

It takes Zoi a little bit to trust new people, but once you've got her trust she's very happy to snuggle. She has not had exposure to children while in my care.

Zoi is low energy right now, but I expect that the more she adjusts the higher her energy level will be. She spends most of the day in her crate or on the couch where she feels safe and cozy. She does ok on a leash in quiet environments without too many distractions, but she definitely has work to do on her leash manners.

Zoi absolutely loves other dogs. When she is scared, other dogs are the only thing guaranteed to break her out of her shell and make her happy. She would do really well in a home with an older dog sibling to help teach her the ways and push her to be adventurous.

Zoi has only ever been left alone crated for a few hours, but she does very well.

A faint grade 1 (on a scale of 1 to 6) heart murmur was detected at a vet appointment in March, however no signs of congestive heart failure have been noted on physical exam or historically. Recommend adopters discuss this condition with their veterinarian prior to adoption if they have any concerns. Depending on the cause of the murmur, Zoi may still outgrow this murmur, or her murmur may be present through life but never cause a problem, or it is possible her heart murmur may progress later in life. UPDATE: No heart murmur was detected at a follow-up vet appointment in early June. Tracking this at annual wellness exams will still be helpful to make sure it does not return.

Little Zoi is a sweet, shy girl looking for her forever home!
