Zawyer is a love bug. He’s playful and goofy and a real snuggler. He’s settled into foster so easily and I think will continue to become even more fun and sweet in his forever home.
Generally, Zawyer is a very well-mannered pup. He is housebroken and crates well overnight or during the day. He’s pretty good on leash, he can pull ahead or drag behind but typically stays at my side. One of the cutest things he does is to hold the leash in his mouth and lead himself. He loves dogs – he’s been comfortable playing with them indoors and out. He also loves toys. He’ll play fetch and likes interacting with us but is also really good at entertaining himself. But mostly he snoozles, preferably curled up near his people.
Zawyer is a chill guy, but he’s still a puppy. Mostly this manifests as some manners that need correcting – he sometimes starts chewing non-toy items like a blanket or coffee table – but he is easily redirected with an actual toy. I have been crating him when not home to prevent any boredom-induced naughtiness. Consistent training and guidance should ensure these don’t become bad habits.
He does do a little excited pee, usually when coming out of his crate or sometimes when he starts playing with other dogs, which I think he will grow out of and as he gets more settled but it’s hard to know. He is also a bit timid – he’s not fond of bus or large truck noises, and he hesitates for a minute or two when meeting people – but other than he seems pretty adventurous and social.
He’s smart and food motivated but can be selective about his treats. So far, he prefers soft over crunchy treats, enjoys a frozen peanut butter Kong treat toy, and not surprisingly loves cheese. He has learned “sit” and “down”, and while he doesn’t officially know “come” he stays pretty close when outside and does come when called.
