Updates

This guy said yes to his new family January 27, 2021!

Winston hangs out in his crate until his foster family gets up. He goes outside for a quick potty break before breakfast. He spends his days just hanging out -- whether in his crate or lounging on a dog bed. When he gets the chance though, he prefers to snuggle up near or occasionally with his humans. In the afternoon/evening, he goes for a 20-30 minute walk, plays a bit with the other dogs in his foster home, but mostly lounges about.

He can be shy around new people, but he's been getting more and more confident daily. Once he trusts you, he enjoys snuggling with or near you.  Winston has not met any children in his foster home.

Winston is on the lower end of the energy spectrum. He enjoys a good sniffari more than anything and is quick to catch a scent. As such, he needs to be watched when outside -- either kept on leash or on a tie-out, or in a yard with a solid/escape-proof fence. He prefers to keep his nose to the ground and has a tendency to pull while on leash, trying to follow the trail. He's still working on loose leash walking.

He lives in a home with dogs who are larger than and much higher energy than he is. While they play, he mostly watches -- they can get a little wild sometimes. He does enjoy playing from time-to-time, but humans are more his people.  Winston has not met cats in his foster home.

Winston loves his people so much; he wishes they could stay home with him all the time! He gets very sad when his people leave, and he spends much of their time away telling anyone who will listen that he is home alone. Each time he's left home alone, he is getting more and more comfortable -- we attribute this to time, familiarity, learning his people will come back to him, and there are other dogs also crated in the room with him who are sleeping and not vocalizing. He does have medication that can be administered as needed while continuing training him though his separation anxiety, but this should not be relied on as a long-term solution. Ultimately, because he can be vocal when alone, I don't feel he would be a good candidate for an apartment.

He is currently taking antibiotics as he's tested positive for anaplasma antibodies. Antiplasmosis is a tick-borne disease, so continuing his monthly flea and tick preventatives year-round will ensure he stays healthy. He is asymptomatic and being treated as a preventative measure.

It has also been noted he may be a candidate for a dental in 1-2 years as he has mild tarter accumulation. Tooth brushing and feeding dental chews and treats will help keep his teeth clean and healthy however.

Winston is an overall snuggly, happy boy who's looking for his furever people that he can learn will always come back for him and want nothing more than to love on him and provide the best life ever.
