Adopted on July 5!

PUPDATE 3

Winona loves to play fetch! We’ve been practicing with a ball and she’s getting better. She brings the ball back and will drop it. Sometimes she teases you and will grab the ball back before you pick it back up. Her favorite ball is a red Kong ball.

Winona has been adjusting to being the only dog since her foster sibling was adopted. She gets a bit lonely and misses playing with her friend. We’ve been taking more time to practice walking on a leash. She doesn’t like it much and prefers to run and play in the fenced yard. Winona does like sniffing all the new smells on a walk, however. She’d likely enjoy having another dog and/or kids to play with.

Winona still sleeps quietly all night in her crate. We just came back from a vacation and she allowed me to sleep in until 10am! She’s been soaking up and the snuggles she can. Winona loves to lay on my feet or near me when I’m working on projects. She loves blankets and will pull blankets off beds to lay on.

Winona is a smart girl and learns new tricks easily. She’s also a stubborn girl and doesn’t like to obey rules she doesn’t like, such as not going into the kitchen. New commands we’ve been working on are: stay, speak, paw, and down.

PUPDATE 2

Winona will sleep quietly in her crate until we wake up in the morning, even allowing us to sleep in until 9am at times! I will let her out of her crate, get her food, and then let her outside. She has been trained to sit and be quiet. She does know “quiet” and won’t bark or whine while I get her food ready. Then I will set her food down for her. After she eats, she will go potty and is usually back at the door hoping her foster sibling will come outside and play. They will spend about an hour or two outside running, playing, sniffing the yard, and resting in the grass.

Winona learned a new trick. If we say “chomp,” she will chomp at us. It isn’t her trying to bite and we think it’s funny. We’ve been working on “speak” for when she wants to go outside or come back inside. Otherwise, she scratches at the screen door or patio door. Winona is smart and learns quickly. She knows “go to bed” (goes to her crate), “sit”, “chomp”, “off” (gets off of furniture), “out” (leaves an area she isn’t allowed to be in), “down” (when she jumps up on someone), and knows her name. She will also “settle” when she’s playing a bit rough. Winona has learned when her foster sibling is tiring of playing.

Winona still loves other dogs and will often run to the fence when her canine friends are outside. She will lay down and wants them to rub her belly, not fully understanding that they can’t. She gives her friends kisses too. After play time, Winona likes to chew on toys/bones or take a nap on the dog bed.

Winona is still working on jumping and nipping. We say “gentle” and she usually stops nipping and will allow someone to pet her. She loves belly rubs! She does still get a bit excited when new people come into the house. As long as she’s been outside recently, she won’t submissively urinate. If she hasn’t been outside recently, she will submissively urinate. It isn’t a lot, just a small amount.

When Winona needs to go potty, she’ll either sit at the patio door, bark/whine at the patio door, or paw at the door. If nobody notices, she will find a rug in the house and urinate inside. She always lets us know first.

Winona is a smart girl and loves to learn new tricks. She seems to enjoy making us laugh. She has grown quite a bit the last few weeks and hasn’t gotten used to her longer legs and is a bit clumsy when running and playing.

Winona does love to snuggle with her humans at the end of the day. She may even snore a bit! She’s a really sweet puppy!

PUPDATE 1

Winona will wake up around 6-7am and make noises in her crate. She whines and begins to bark because she's hungry. I do not feed her until she is outside because she may have an accident while eating. She does have some issues with submissive urination when she's excited. Winona will run and play outside, come inside and nap. If it is nice outside, she may nap in the sunshine in the grass. Winona recently has discovered how much fun it is to run the fence line with the neighbor's dogs. She also likes to chase rabbits! Winona eats dinner around 6pm and will play outside for a while. She loves to play tug of war! Winona love belly rubs and will often roll over in request of some belly rubs. She is such a sweet girl! In true lab fashion, she likes water, but isn't a big fan of a bath. She'll allow you to give her a bath, but may try to jump out of the tub.

Winona loves people! She will roll over for belly rubs to anyone. It doesn't matter if we are inside or outside. She loves people of all ages! She does still jump and may knock younger kids down. We are working on this, and she doesn't jump on foster mom or foster dad anymore. She will snuggle next to you on the floor after dinner. Winona makes a great foot warmer!

She loves kids. Winona does get excited. Winona still does puppy bites and jumps. If the kids run, she will run, try to bite them, and will jump on them.

Winona has low to medium energy for a puppy. She loves to run and play, but also loves to nap. She does nap quite a bit but is also a growing puppy.

Winona has a foster dog sibling. She loves to play, bite, and wrestle with her foster sibling. They get along well, but her foster sibling is great at letting her know when she's had enough. Winona doesn't always understand the cues and has to be separated from her foster sibling. Winona loves to run with our neighbor's dogs at the fence line. She hasn't met other dogs while on walks because we don't usually make it too far before she's done walking on a leash.

She has met our cat through a door and through a gate. She really wanted to play with the cat, but the cat wanted nothing to do with her.

Winona is crated when alone. She does great and doesn't bark while we are gone or when we get home. She knows she will be let out of her crate after we've been home for a few minutes. If she does whine or bark, I let her outside right away and she goes potty.

She had some short head tremors early on in her foster home.  No tremors have been seen the past two weeks.

Winona is a super sweet puppy. She learns quickly, is treat motivated, and loves to be around her people. She would be great for a beginning dog owner or for someone with lots of experience.
