Waffles gets up when we do - between 6:30am-7am on weekdays and between 7am-8am on weekends. She gets breakfast and potty breaks on and off throughout the day. If the weather is nice, we take her for a morning walk. Waffles does well napping during the day. She will play with toys and hard chews in between naps. In the evening, she gets a nice walk, dinner and a potty break or two before bed. Waffles would make for an excellent work from home buddy!
Waffles has done well with people and is very friendly. She may be a little shy and timid at first but once she feels comfortable she will gladly accept all the pets and attention you want to give her! With time, we have seen her come out of her shell more and become a much more confident dog.
Waffles has bursts of energy but enjoys chilling on the couch with you and taking naps. We have a fenced backyard and she loves to run around. Waffles lived on a farm where she could roam so I feel she would do best being able to have that same freedom in a fenced yard. She enjoys fetching a ball or toy and we are working on her bringing it back. Waffles needs at least one long walk a day but would certainly welcome more. She only recently learned to walk on a leash and she has done great in a short amount of time. Our resident dogs have been good mentors for that. Waffles absolutely LOVES toys and will happily accept any toy you want to buy her! She can be a super chewer so more robust toys are best as well as hard chews like a Benebone.
Waffles has done really well with our resident dogs. During the first week, she would occasionally growl if one of our dogs came near her when she had a toy. Not every time, just sometimes. That behavior has since subsided though over time. We have two older dogs and a younger dog. Waffles has been respectful of the older dogs and recently started to engage in play with our younger dog. Waffles had lived on a farm with other dogs/cats. I believe Waffles would be a great candidate for doggy daycare and a good way to get her energy out and provide socialization.
Waffles has not been exposed to children or cats in our care.
Waffles has shown signs of separation anxiety when being in a crate. She does not like being left alone in a crate and has been destructive. She will whine/cry/bark non-stop. For this reason, I would not recommend her live in an apartment. I would also recommend that she goes to a home where someone is home during the day, at least until this behavior gets under control. We have put her in her crate to take naps, which she will do when you are home. Waffles will need continued crate training until she can be trusted alone. Waffles has occasionally picked up shoes, mittens and some other non-toy items but has been doing really well with a "leave it" command and being redirected with a toy or hard chew. We have left her alone to roam in the house with our resident dogs for short periods of time and she has done well. Recently, we left her for about 45 minutes and did not have any issues. My other dogs don't get into things so I think that helps her understand not to either, and she also has them for company. I do not know how she would do as an only dog.
Waffles has done really well with potty training and seems to understand what "potty" means now. The few times she has been in a car, she has done well. She mostly just lays downs during the trip. She still isn’t quiet sure about getting in the car so she will need assistance/coxing.
Waffles is super sweet and loves to be with her people. She is very smart and is picking up on training quickly. She has done great with "sit" and "off", "leave it", "lay down" and "come" are coming along. I think she would be fine as an only dog but would certainly benefit having another dog as a playmate and to show her the ropes too. With continued training and love, Waffles will make for an excellent companion! If we didn't already have three dogs, we would have adopter her in a heartbeat.
