Toast is a fabulous sleeper and typically wakes around 7:30 am when he hears me. We take potty trips ~5x/day; anytime he wakes up, leaves his crate, or every ~3-4 hours otherwise. He's doing great with potty training - still an accident here or there but catching on quickly! His favorite thing in the whole wide world is food, he can barely contain himself at mealtime but is doing a great job learning to sit (even with his wiggle butt) before eating. His treat motivation makes him a great learner, he's already picked up five tricks in our short time together! He's learned Sit, Down, Shake, Touch (will touch his nose to wherever your hand is), and Kiss (he'll boop your cheek). While I work, he spends about half his time free to roam the apartment, and half his time in his playpen/crate.
He sleeps in a playpen attached to his crate and I most often find him snoozing in his crate - most nights he'll sing you his special lullaby before going down, this is a beautiful melody of barks, whimpers, and the sassy banter of a deep-voiced toddler talking back. This song is usually 2-3 minutes then he self-soothes and will head to bed.
He's quite shy with new people and takes a little time to warm up, but he's getting braver by the day! Once he's comfortable, he's a total lovebug and a velcro puppy, he tends to follow room to room and likes to be within eyesight. He's much more outgoing with people when my resident pup is around, tends to take his lead and will more confidently approach people. Toast has not met any children.
Toast is a medium-low energy pup, spends lots of time snoozing and tires pretty quickly after play. We have short play sessions outside 1-2x/day, and a long walk (30-60min) after work once a day. He does mostly good on a leash, can be a bit stubborn at times if he's approaching anything he finds scary (such as long stairwells, poorly lit hallways, or plastic bags).
Toast is 100% a dog's dog and absolutely loves other pups. He really lights up with other dogs and loves to play - does a great job giving and responding to play cues, hasn't met a dog he didn't love! He's a total little brother to my resident dog and follows him everywhere, always wants to play, mimics his behaviors, sleeps on top of him, etc. He has not met any cats.
Toast is working on his separation anxiety; he does okay in his crate when he can see/hear me but gets nervous when I'm out of earshot or eyesight; he isn't destructive but will bark or whine. We've been working on longer stretches of leave and he's improving but will need your help building his confidence in being alone!
He's been a delight to foster and this sweet boy will make an amazing addition to any family!
