Updates

Check out this video of Susie playing with her ball, practicing place/patience and polite leash walking!

PUPDATE 4

Susie's enjoying the cooler weather, spending time outside playing with the toys and watching the neighborhood activity with little reaction with the exception of the squirrel that likes to play in the front yard and chatter at Susie.

On the practice list these days are leash manners, placing and accepting treats from a flat hand slowly. Loves her walks!

She's such a happy girl likes to be with people, receive belly rub and back scratches and cuddling in the morning.

PUPDATE 3

Sit in place has been the name of the game... Susie's been a quick learner. She's will sit/lay in place for over an hour, will release and return to her spot, be it her bed or blanket.

This has help to have a calmer entering for guests coming to and from the house. As well as her reaction to the outside world going by even with the windows open.

I've returned to the office four days a week, she's been left out able to roam the house without challenges for over 9 hours. She is excited to see me returning home. We are also utilizing the crate training for one of those days, she enters and exits without issue, she does have a couple of toys to keep her occupied as well.

PUPDATE 2

Susie's been working on her walking skills with help from a pronged training collar her leash is getting looser and her reaction to her surroundings is getting less. Redirection and recall has improved as well. On the pack walk with the other foster pup this morning she was completely non-reactive.

We've been also working the barking to visitors and people/dogs walking by. She still reacts some but is redirected much sooner than before and at times there is no reaction at all.

She still wants to be close to her humans. I have returned to working at the office a few days a week. Susie has been fine to be left our and about in the house without issue.

She enjoys playing with her ball, taking walks and long naps.

PUPDATE 1

Susie wakes up around 6 am, likes to cuddle and have belly rubs before starting the day - goes out to potty, eats her breakfast, then goes on a 30-45 minute walk with resident dog. She comes home plays and naps throughout the day - currently her foster is working from home.  Susie likes to be by her humans. We go for a walk or plays in the yard tethered (yard is not fenced in) about 12:30 pm for a half hour or so.  Susie likes to lay in the shade on the deck watching the neighborhood activity. She eats an evening meal at 5:00 pm and then goes on an evening walk about 6:30 pm. She goes out again about 9:30 pm before bed at about 10:00 pm.

Susie is timid/shy at first, but her tail is wagging and is good with meeting new people. She approaches slowly and allows her head to be petted. She takes longer to warm up to males than it does females. She has no exposure to children.

She is a medium level dog who enjoys her walks and plays fetch with her ball for long periods of time. Susie is an average/fast walker, so her leash is usually tight but not pulling. She's very aware of the activities around her while walking.

Susie is responsive to other dogs while out walking - but can be redirected with either command of "Leave It" or "No". In the home she is good with the resident dog - with visiting dogs she is protective of the individuals that live with her, tail is wagging. Susie does best with slow introductions. She will bark at dogs passing by while her tail is wagging.  Since she barks when passing people and dogs, Susie would be best in an home rather than an apartment setting. Susie has no exposure to cats.

She has not been left alone for any length of time.  Susie has been alone 15-20 minutes the short times have been without issue. She will follow you around upon return your return - happy to see you.

The Wisconsin vet extracted 6 teeth during her dental surgery. Susie has some tartar accumulation present and should be given dental treats to prevent further accumulation. Adopters should plan for a dental cleaning in the next 1-2 years.

Susie has a lot of love, attention and comfort to give her forever family. She loves to be with people.
