Stormy is a 3 year old mixed breed from Louisiana. She was on the euthanasia list and pulled hours before she was to be put down.  Stormy was a part of a hoarding case that was brought into the shelter along with Taz and Luna (adopted).  She is not bonded with any of the dogs and can be the only dog in the house.

Stormy is a goofy girl that will have you laughing all the time.  Stormy loves to carry around a toy, pull back her neck while she walks and wiggles her whole body.  She loves to lay on the back of the couch to take a nap like a cat.  If she falls in between the cushion and the back of the couch she’s just as comfy there. She is currently fostered with two other foster dogs and the resident dog of the house.

Energy Level:

Stormy is a medium energy level dog.  She will happily go on a 1.25 mile walk in the evening. She’ll also play with the other dogs for a bit at a time but prefers just carrying around a toy and wiggling. She is a dog that can take a day off from walking and not be unmanageable.  She does not require multiple hours of exercise a night.  Stormy can be a bit nervous in busy situations so a busy downtown neighborhood or a busy home would not be ideal for her.

Training:

Stormy has no interest in learning any commands with the other dogs.  She’ll come over and check out what we are doing but then happily wiggle away with a toy in her mouth.  She comes when her name is called.  She may just need a less busy household to focus on learning commands.  She is food motivated, but just loves carrying a toy more.

Stormy does pull a bit on the leash when we go on walks (we walk as a pack).  When she is being walked with one other dog the pulling is much less. When she first got here she was very nervous to go on a walk.  Now she is one of the leaders in the pack.  She rarely gets nervous when she hears something she’s unfamiliar with now but when she does get nervous what that looks like is her “putting on the brakes” to figure out what it is. She will pull a bit to go sniff something but she has not done any lunging on the leash and she does not react to other dogs.

Crate Training:

Stormy easily goes in a kennel without any fuss.   She will either kennel up with her foster sister or by herself.

Potty Training:

Stormy is 95% potty trained.  Stormy will potty on command.  If she won’t focus on going potty I just take the toy away from her, tell her go potty and then give it back to her as a reward.  Right now we are isolating to one level of the house so I can keep an eye on her to make sure she’s successful.  She’s starting to hit the bells on the door to go outside.

Grooming:

Stormy is a short haired dog whose fur is similar to a lab.

Dogs:

Stormy does well with other dogs and will play with them but not for hours on end.  She loves everyone in the household and has loved everyone she’s met on a walk. Stormy is ok if another dog pushes her out of the way and is not aggressive.

Cats:

Stormy lives with 2 cats.  She’s curious about the cats and will chase them to play if the other dogs are in on the fun.  She’s not obsessed with cats and does not try to hurt them.  If my cat is on the kitchen island she’ll put her paws up on the edge to look at her and then she’ll re-direct away for a toy.

Kids:

Stormy does ok with kids but she’s a little nervous around them.  She’ll eventually take treats out of their hands with encouragement but she didn’t fully relax and be herself around them.  Because of this Stormy would probably be best in a home without kids or only have kids that visit.

People in General:

Stormy can be shy and standoffish when she meets new people.

Car Rides:

Stormy does just fine in the car. She does not panic, drool, bark or destroy anything in the car.

This girl is so sweet and will have you constantly laughing.  She loves life just as much as her stuffed toys.  She loves snuggling up to you and giving hugs.
