PUPDATE 2
Spock has been settling in nicely with our family. He's met several new dogs and people in the past week. He generally starts out a little shy, but warms up pretty quick. He loves his walks, he was a little unsure of the snow, but now he doesn't seem to mind it. He's also gotten MUCH better with any possessive tendencies that we first saw when it came to people. He's become much more curious and, while still a little shy with new people, just overall friendly. We've also been working on commands, he's already really good at come, stay, sit etc. and we're still working with him on jumping up when he's excited to see someone.
Spock is really a great little dog. If you're looking for a little companion that would join you on walks as well as lounging on the couch, he may be the one for you and your family.
PUPDATE 1
During the week we get Spock up early with our other dog for breakfast and potties. He'll get a couple hours of cuddle time (which we loves) before we have to leave for work/school. Spock is kenneled during the day and after a little whining sleeps through most of it. When we get home he's out for potty and dinner, then usually a walk, which he loves and is great at. He spends the rest of the evening hanging out, and usually shadowing myself or my wife. At night he's in his kennel where he sleeps all night really well (as long as it's in our room).
Spock loves his people. He seems to quickly bond with those in his household. He's met a few other people and is a little hesitant at first but warms up quickly. When he first arrived, he immediately bonded with my wife and became a little possessive. However, since then he's been much better and is friendly with everyone in the household.
We haven't had Spock around any little kids or cats so we can't comment on that. Notes from his previous foster in Texas said he was good with cats. We do have two older teenagers that he's fine with.
Spock is a low-medium energy dog. He loves walks but would be just fine napping in his bed or on someone's lap. He's great on walks.
Generally he doesn't pay attention to other dogs on walks or in the pet store. We have an older dog who he's tried to play with, but now they generally ignore one another.
Spock loves his people and he'd definitely rather have company than be alone. At first he really cried when left in his kennel during the day. However now I think he's getting used to a routine and is doing much better. He generally sleeps when alone. We generally kennel him when we leave so we don't know how he'd be as a free roamer, although I suspect fine once he gets comfortable.
Spock was positive for Anaplasma, a tick-borne disease, in early December but is not showing any clinical signs. A positive result for Anaplasma just indicates antibodies to this bacteria, not necessarily active infection. Per our rescue protocol, he is currently being given a round of antibiotics.
Spock does have some tartar accumulation present, but is not in need of a dental at this time. A dental may be recommended within the next 1-2 years.
He was also diagnosed with a small umbilical hernia. He will be going in soon to have it fixed.
Overall, Spock is a great little dog. He'd do best with a family where someone is around much of the time, but would probably fit in anywhere.
