Updates
August has done pretty well living in an apartment as long as he has enough opportunities for exercise. He is currently used to having someone home during the day and able to give a lot of walk time. He sleeps most of the day but often gets a boost of energy in the evenings and wants to play.
August loves everyone he meets. He's good about not jumping up. He just likes being around his people.
He has not had exposure to children while I’ve been fostering him, but his previous foster let me know that he is good with kids. With his first foster, he lived in a house with a 2 year old and was great with her.
August is a medium-to high-energy dog. He's been getting 4 walks a day: two 1-hour-long walks in the morning and after work, and two short walks in the afternoon and at night. He does very well on a leash and prefers to stay next to you or lag behind you.
August has done well with other dogs. He's very vocal when he plays but he’s not rough. He sometimes gets nervous when playing with bigger dogs or when he's out-numbered. He can also be overly excited about other dogs when on leash (barking and whining, but no aggression).
He's never been introduced to a cat, but he gets overly excited about cats encountered on walks.
August has not had any issues being left alone. He's not in a crate or restricted to a room and he's never gotten into anything.
August can be quite fearful, especially of loud noises. He's extremely afraid of thunderstorms and rumble strips. He takes trazodone for his anxiety during thunderstorms and long car trips.
Over the past seven months, August has had surgery on both back legs for bilateral luxating patellas and has gone through recovery and physical therapy. He is still building up strength and improving range of motion in the rear left leg, so he sometimes shows lameness after extended activity. He can run well in short bursts. The vet said he still has some abnormalities in his knees and will probably never be very fast or be able to handle long runs.
Overall, August is a sweet boy who has been through a lot so far in his life and is deserving of a place to finally call home!
