Sparkle and Shine are adorably inseparable and completely different! This bonded pair joins us from Alabama, where they were formerly used for breeding and lived mainly outside. These two little ladies are 100% beagles :) they love to eat, beg for food, sniff, snuggle, play, and bey if they see a bunny in your yard that’s not supposed to be there! They are wonderful with children over 3 (have not met a child under 3 at this point), people, cats, and dogs and would love to live in a house that has a mix of all of those companions.
You can tell they love the outdoors as they love going for walks and enjoying all the sights, sounds, and smells. Sparkle is a medium energy dog and Shine is a low-to-medium energy dog. They both also really enjoy going to the dog park and running, along with sunbathing when we let them play with us in the backyard for long periods of time.
They are big couch potatoes when they are not playing. Both enjoy their snuggles and their snoozes. They are not picky about where they sleep, but they love being with you when they can. Their foster parents work from home and these two love being heard snoring during teleconferences to lighten up the mood.
Shine is the more laidback of the two. She is more food motivated and has been easier to train on certain habits (like tapping the door to go to the bathroom). She is great meeting new people but can be shy if people get very loud or move very quickly in her general direction. She’ll flop onto her back to demonstrate submission. She will gently ask to sleep next to you on the couch, and if she really likes you she will wag her tail to show you (she is a selective tail wagger). She is still working on potty training although her accidents are becoming more rare. She can go a full workday without needing to go out, but if she drinks a lot of water after work you do have to let her out within 30 minutes.
Sparkle is the more adventurous and rambunctious of the two. She is more toy motivated than food motivated (although she still loves food). She really enjoys playing fetch, and is constantly wagging her tail because she just loves hanging out with you so much. She is the louder of the two and will cry if you are her favorite person and leave her. Sparkle is potty trained.
Shine had a benign (non-cancerous) mass removed from her mammary chain on 4/29 and recovered fully. These types of masses are typically resolved completely by removal and our vet doesn’t expect any further issue from it. Similarly, Sparkle had a benign mass removed from her mammary chain on 5/13. She did also have a grade 1 carcinoma mass, a common malignant tumor for older females spayed later in life, removed completely. There is a very low chance of reoccurrence (7%).
Sparkle and Shine would love to meet you and be a part of your family. They are the sweetest girls who deserve a loving home, and they will love you so much back in return.
