Sophie wakes up every day ready to take on the world with so much enthusiasm. She is looking for an active family that will help her get her puppy energy out daily, help her learn all the important things (how to earn treats and where the best sniff spots are) and that will stare adoringly at her as she puppy dreams hard on the couch.
Sophie is a pretty typical, 9 week old puppy. She was born in foster care here in Madison and spent her first 8 weeks hanging with her 10 siblings and momma (last photo). Over the last week, she has adjusted quickly to our home and her new playmates. She has been fairly brave and picked up doing stairs and exploring in the yard very quickly. She spends her days practicing crate training, playing with her foster siblings and emptying out the toy box. She loves meal times, chomping on everything (those puppy teeth!) and snuggling in with the humans as the evening winds down.
She warmed up to her foster family very quickly and readily approached the few guests we have had in our home for attention. We have not seen her with kids but she is very mouthy so would need to be closely supervised with any young kids until she learns those boundaries. She does redirect to toys fairly easily.
She currently has four other pups in her foster home; two adult dogs and two other puppies that are a little bit older than her. She plays mostly with the other puppies and they play like typical pups, though she can be a bit overzealous. She tries to be friends with the adult dogs but does need some help remembering to give them some space when they would prefer she leave them alone. Overall she is pretty submissive with them and she does read the cues pretty well when they give her correction. I would recommend continued supervised socialization with other dogs so she can continue to learn appropriate play/boundaries.
She has two kitties in her foster home and has tackled one several times. She is just trying to play but has been a bit too rough with them so I would suggest a home without kitties for Sophie.
Sophie is a medium energy pup. She does well with a few zips around the house with the other pups and some play time but settles in with toys or snuggles on the couch. Due to the cold weather, we haven't spent much time on leash so she will likely need some work on leash skills in her adoptive home. She has done well in the car (crated) the few times she has been along for a car ride. .
Sophie is crated when left alone. She is still a puppy and has tried chewing things like the corner of the rug, charging cords, pieces of stuff she finds on the floor, etc so she will need to be supervised. She has done pretty well in the crate for a pup so young and settles in fairly quickly. She gets breaks every three hours or so for potty/playtime. She settles in quickly at bedtime but does need one potty break overnight.
Sophie has brought a load of puppy energy into our home and has been a super fun pup to have. She is sweet, affectionate, playful and is ready to start making memories with her forever family.
Sophie’s mom had a DNA analysis showing 50% bull terrier, 25.1% chow chow, 8.1% American foxhound, 6.0% German shepherd, 10.8% supermutt. We do not know the breed of Sophie’s dad.
