Skip has a sweet, calm disposition. She is house-trained, eager to please, and quick to roll over for a belly rub. We do not have cats, other pets, or young kids in the house. She was great with our six-year-old niece who stayed with us during the Thanksgiving holiday week.

Our day starts when I wake up at about 6 am. She is in no big rush to go outside or take a walk but is happy to go when I am ready. We walk for about 2 miles in the morning. I think leash-walking may be a new thing for her. She doesn’t pull, but she does weave a bit as though unfamiliar with walking alongside someone. She is also surprised by typical neighborhood sights and sounds (bicyclists, basketball bouncing, pedestrians) and will pause until encouraged to continue. We usually take another short walk in the evening. In just a few days, with training treats and more experience, she has improved a lot. Very trainable!

Overall, I would describe her as medium energy. She is up for a walk whenever offered and for however long. But she isn’t antsy or hyper if we don’t go, or if I delay our start. We have a small, fenced yard, and she will zoom around and do some hilarious 360' after a walk before coming inside. She would love to visit a dog park periodically with her forever family to run around and play with other pups. When inside, she naps, chews a bone, or socializes and cuddles with us. The day ends about 10pm.

Skip does not seem familiar with basic commands. We are working on that in addition to leash-walking. She is smart and observant; she learned to use our dog door almost immediately which is not the case for all dogs. On a few occasions, when she has been very affectionate or playful she has started to gently chew rather than just lick my hand (similar to puppy behavior). She stops promptly when corrected with a verbal “uh, uh.”

She is not crate-trained and does not want to go into the crate. She roams freely in the house. She has not chewed anything inappropriate or had any accidents. She hasn’t counter-surfed. While we work at home, we’ve left her alone for about 3 hours at a time. We haven’t yet heard her bark (after a week plus). She whined a little during her first day or two with us when we placed her in a bedroom with the door closed; (at the time, we weren’t sure of her comfort level with lots of new people and activity.)

We were told that she played very well with the dogs at the vet where she boarded briefly before coming to live with us. When we had a dog visit our house, they played very well outside. When he first came inside, Skip seemed a little protective of us and growled. However, she was very responsive to correction, and when we gave them breaks and more supervised time outside playing, it all resolved well both inside and outside.

Skip is a wonderful pup and deserves a family as fabulous as she is.
