Updates
Hope has settled into her new house life happily and quickly. She is a bundle of happiness, cuddles, and affection. She has not met anyone she doesn't love (and she's met a lot of people in the short time she's been here!) and everyone who meets her immediately wants to take her home with them.
Our days start around 7am. Hope has been sleeping through the night in my office uncrated -- she does not like being crated so if this is desired it will take a good amount of training. She will cry if she's crated, but settles down pretty quickly in my office uncrated when we go to sleep. She's had no accidents overnight and doesn't get into trouble other than taking some shoes to sleep with. After she's gone outside she comes in for breakfast which she usually eats half of right away, and then comes back for the rest later. She loves to run around the backyard with my resident dog -- they both live to search for squirrels and other small animals in the yard. Her tail has yet to stop wagging whenever she is outside. She has some speed & energy and would likely be a great candidate for daycare or visiting a dog park some day.
She enjoys playing with toys and following my dog around the house. Since I work from home, she's been pretty active in the mornings and settles down for her nap after lunch. When we go on walks her nose rarely leaves the ground -- she doesn't pull too much unless she catches the scent of something. She's most interested in just exploring when we walk. She doesn't bark at people we see on walks or people walking by the house. So far she is only vocal when she's trying to get my dog to play with her (he usually declines this offer). She is quite submissive with other dogs and has learned that my resident dog likes his space -- she does well not engaging if he makes it clear that he isn't interested in being around her.
Hope loves to be near people. She will curl up next to you on the couch or put her head right on your chest -- if you are looking for a sweet cuddle bug Hope is for you.
Hope is pretty treat-motivated and has picked up on "sit" right away. She responds well to redirection for unwanted behaviors such as jumping up on the backyard fence or pulling on the corners of rugs. She's a smart dog who would likely enjoy some training classes or maybe even some kind of agility -- she is a natural athlete with her jumping skills!
