Silas is happy to announce his adoption on July 31, 2020!

Silas is a sweet, mellow, and playful pup. And what a looker! Check out additional photos and videos on Instagram @SilasSays_AdoptMe

While in foster, Silas has been going for 2-3 daily walks, and once or twice a week he goes for a 2-3 mile run. He has a real outdoorsy streak and has been loving being in more wooded areas and along the lakefront. He adjusted to his downtown surroundings but would likely prefer a quieter environment, perhaps a residential area with slower foot traffic and less noise.

After a walk he’ll often get the zoomies and then get out all his toys to play. He looooves to chew (and sometimes destroy) toys, but the entertainment factor is worth the replacement fees. I’ve found a few that can go the distance and will happily provide recommendations! He also loves to play with you –chewing his toy near or on you, playing tug of war, or fetch.

The rest of the day he settles down, taking a snoozle or lounging on my bed where he can look out the window. I would say he’s a medium energy pup overall. He doesn’t need to be kenneled, but I crate him when I’m out and he settles down quickly.

Silas doesn’t seem to have had much prior training but is smart and extremely food motivated. He has mastered sit, stay, down, come, drop, and kennel (he’s phasing out the treat on the last two). He may not have been socialized much either, and can be nervous around new people, places, and experiences. He warms up quickly, though, and his confidence has continued to increase - he’s currently a favorite in my apartment building, always stopping for pets at the front desk. He has also responded very enthusiastically towards men, so he hopes his forever home contains at least one male!

Silas had initially shown some reactivity on leash towards other dogs, but since using a training collar on walks to tighten up his heel he is very well behaved. He hasn’t had a ton of opportunities to interact with other dogs, but we have gone on several walks with other dogs and he has had a few successful slow introductions. He also has shown some resource guarding with treat toys in the past, but this has been negligible after building some trust and working on commands like come and drop.

Silas has really blossomed in foster and is such a loving and entertaining dog! He needs a strong owner who is willing to reinforce his training and continue to work with him on socialization. He previously lived in a home with children but might do best with older children as he can sometimes be unaware of his surroundings when playing (he’s fallen off the couch a few times) and a bit mouthy.

Silas will make you laugh out loud with his toy-playing antics, give into his desire for treats, convince you to let him into your bed for morning snuggles and belly rubs, and beam with pride when he struts his handsome self. Make this good boy part of your family!
