Scobi is a smart dog who is eager to please and loves his people. He wakes up around 6:30am or 7am and is ready to go outside right away, then he goes for a 15-30 minute walk. When we come in, he gets his breakfast. He lounges around our apartment until about noon, then he goes for another 20-30 minute walk. He goes on another walk between 4pm and 5pm, and then he gets dinner. His last walk is around 8pm, and we usually make a stop at the dog park so that he can play with other dogs in our building, which he enjoys. We think he would do well at dog daycare or in a house with another dog since he loves socializing.
He does well in the apartment by himself for up to 5 hours at a time, and we do allow him to free roam. He has not gotten into anything he shouldn't, and usually just sleeps on the couch or in his bed until we return. His favorite place to be is next to his people, and he'll take all the attention we can spare for him! He enjoys the quiet life, and likes being snuggled up with a blanket with us while we work, read, or watch TV.
At the same time, he has a good amount of energy for a dog his age and gets around 1.5-2 hours of exercise per day. The number of walks could be reduced with a backyard where he could roam and be let out to potty, but he gets a little ornery if he doesn't get enough attention and exercise. He's always down for a walk.
Scobi is an adaptable guy, but does not like big/loud trucks, and probably would not thrive in a city environment with lots of traffic noise, but would love a suburb or rural area. We use a white noise machine for him when we are away or at work to drown out hallway noises.
In the time that we have had him, we have been able to start to teach Scobi more commands like "paw"/"shake", as well as "wait." He is a good listener and is receptive when we redirect him on walks.
Scobi has not had a lot of exposure to young children while in our care, but when he has interacted with them briefly in our building, he has been gentle and enthusiastic. He has a high prey drive for cats, though, so he would not do well with a cat housemate.
The vet highly recommends dental due to tartar build-up. Dental will be done - if not in foster care, Fetch will work with the adopters to schedule/cover this.
