Roscoe found his family on January 9, 2021!

Roscoe's day typically starts at around 8am, and he is really patient about getting out of his kennel in the AM. After a quick trip outside, he eats ~1.5 cups of Natural Balance Limited Ingredient Diet. He seems equally happy when he is roughhousing with our 7-year-old Lab, going on walks, or cuddling with a human, but he's also good at settling and sleeping when we're busy. He has his second and final meal (another 1.5 cups) at around 6pm

He is a big fan of all living beings, enthusiastically greeting every human and animal he meets. Indoors he's able to keep it together and not jump up too much, but outdoors he can be a little wild at first.

Roscoe adores our teenage kids and basically treats them like fellow puppies. If they're sitting or laying down, he'll happily crawl all over them. It's cute at first but we are teaching our kids how to firmly tell him ‘no’, and how to engage when it IS OK to play. He has met a few younger kids in our neighborhood and adores them too. His enthusiasm might be a little much for kids who aren't familiar with dogs, though.

He can move quickly from high to low energy. He LOVES to play, and it's very entertaining to watch him play with our older dog. He must have some cattle dog in him because he has some amazingly quick moves and is very fast. He definitely needs his exercise, but he can also cool down very quickly if the situation requires it.

He loves dogs but has no boundaries with them. Our 7-year-old lab tolerates his crazy puppy behavior (biting at her neck, jumping on her shoulder, etc.) but you'd want to be extra careful around strange dogs. He basically does the same with any dog he meets, inside or outside. So that might require some management, but we think he'd be very happy in a home with another dog.

Roscoe was obsessed with our chill cat for the first few weeks but now I'd describe it as a mild curiosity – definitely no "attack" instinct there, and he no longer chases him. Perhaps more skittish cats would be problematic, but we are pretty pleased with the outcome so far.

Due to accidents in the house and unauthorized chewing, we've opted to leave him in his kennel when no one is home (admittedly pretty rare in these pandemic times). He goes willingly into his kennel (we usually give him a Greenie dental treat or something else to occupy him) and mostly just seems to sleep without complaint.

We have been trying to teach him to wait for an invitation to jump on the couch or a bed, since not all adoptive families will be OK with that. Be warned though: he is the cutest snuggler ever and is pretty hard to resist!

Roscoe is a quick learner and has been working hard on several commands. The commands he’s working on include sit, down, leave it, come, heel and wait!

He has some tartar accumulation so an adopter should expect a dental in the next 1-2 years.

Roscoe loves riding in the car! As soon as he sees us put our coats on and head to the garage, he enthusiastically follows us out and jumps into the back of the car.
