PUPDATE 4

If you're looking for a second opinion about me, have a look at the photo of my report card above. It was written by a Fetch dog sitter where I stayed for 6 nights because my foster parents took an airplane trip. In a nutshell, I'm "absolutely wonderful." Note that I enjoy other dogs but also know to respect boundaries if they're stand-offish, I don't need to be crated when nobody is home, and as you already know I can get too eager to greet other dogs on walks.

PUPDATE 3

Did it! Check out the photo of me sitting and waiting at an intersection!

BTW, that's my foster brother on the right. He's even better at it than I am, but he's been practicing for a lot longer. And they say I learned faster than he did. :-)

PUPDATE 2

I'm getting pretty comfortable in my new foster home. I sleep in their bedroom on my cushion. Well, TBH, sometimes my foster brother gets my cushion and I get his, but it's all the same to me.

They say I don't know many words, but if they ask me if I want to go for a "walk" I perk right up and start prancing. And this "sit" business isn't easy, but every now and then I can do it when we come to an intersection, which is what they expect of me and my foster brother. Then I can also "wait" a tiny little bit before they say "ok" and we all cross the street.

The only bad habit they say I have is wanting to go meet the dogs I see on walks. I can get vocal and pull on my leash. I'm not mean or aggressive, but my body wiggles and I sniff them like crazy if I get the chance. To avoid a big scene they generally don't give me the chance though. I get along fine with my foster brother; I'd say I like him more than he likes me. We romp together a few times each day. Oh yeah, squirrels interest me a lot too.

What else? I'm human-focused, good natured, easy-going, chew on dog toys but not human belongings, and don't steal food from tables and counters even though I'm pretty tall. I'm not a big fan of kibbles, but dog treats are another matter.

More next time!

PUPDATE 1

Hello, I'm Rookie and I'm 9 years old but it's hard to believe because ... I'm spry enough to jump a baby gate! I adore humans and dogs too; sometimes when I get walked I'll whimper and pull to go greet a dog I see. Mind you I am a total gentleman and affable as all get out.

The reason I'm here is that someone in my original home was allergic to me. I do shed, so my foster parents brush me every few days. I get described as a "Treeing Walker Coonhound" but those dogs have short hair and they bark. My hair is longer, and I am definitely *not* a barker. I'm not much of a hunter either; the other day 2 fat rabbits were grazing a few feet away and I didn't care at all.

Long story short, I'm a family dog, not a hunting dog!

Oh, if you adopt me before June 4th, you need to give me an antibiotic twice a day, with breakfast and dinner. That's because I tested positive for Lyme; I have no symptoms whatsoever, but their rule is to give me the pills anyway, just to make sure that I'm healthy. Also, my records show that I have seasonal allergies, though I'm not itching or sneezing now. And the vet says I may need a dental in 6-12 months because of tartar accumulation.

P.S. They're trying to teach me some commands. I can "sit" okay sometimes but it's harder when there are distractions. I think I'm catching on a bit to "wait" too even though I'd really rather not!
