Rocky is a big boy with a big heart and stomach! If you’re looking for a loyal, loving, and laid-back companion, Rocky is your guy! He loves giving and receiving hugs and is more than happy to accommodate your lifestyle, whether it be sitting at home all day while tearing up stuffed toys or going for a long walk, or brisk jog outside. While Rocky is adaptable, he would love a family that will frequently walk or jog with him. Walking is his absolute favorite pastime. He potties right away when he goes out, so you don’t ever have to worry about waiting in the cold for a long time.
He never wants to be far away from his people and has never shown any sign of aggression towards people. He is very compliant and lets me do just about anything to him. The groomer noted that he is one of the easiest dogs to handle and we have had no issues going to the vet either.
Rocky attended a busy event and had a great time! He loved greeting every dog and receiving pets from every person. He is super tolerant and easy-going.
Here is a list of what Rocky knows and is working on:
Knows:
House-trained
Crate-trained
Can free roam*
Can be vacuumed
Treat-motivated
Knows sit, down, come, no
Rarely barks
Can co-exist with dogs & cats
*Rocky can free roam, but he will sometimes dig through trash or check the counter for food or grab fluffy items like oven mitts, rags, or stuffed animals to tear up. I have noticed that this is only a problem when he feels is he not full or is bored (which isn’t often).
Working on:
Not pulling during walks
Giving other dogs personal space
Not pushing for attention
Rocky will sometimes pull during walks when he sees other dogs or something of interest. We have found that he does well with a martingale-prong collar combination to control this behavior. Sometimes when Rocky is excited to meet a new dog, he forgets about personal bubbles and needs to be distanced. Keeping him on a leash at all times outside of the home will prevent him from getting into trouble and allow you to control him. Rocky also loves attention from his people and will sometimes shove other dogs. He is learning that it is not okay to push and needs to sit to be rewarded.
While Rocky is lacking in some manners when it comes to other dogs, he is making an effort to learn the best that he can and already has great people manners! Rocky has been waiting his whole life for a furever home and we think he’s ready. His ideal home would be one where he is the only dog who receives all of the attention, love, toys, and goes on lots of walks! However, I think he would be content with a family who would just love and feed him and let him love you back.
Rocky has Hypothyroidism, which is a lifelong condition that requires pills twice daily and a bi-annual exam to monitor his condition. It is easily managed and Rocky miraculously will eat pills without a fuss. As long as he is on his medication, he lives life to its fullest and is as healthy as he can be! He’s still got a lot of energy and love to give and hopes his condition won't affect interested adopters.
