Rex found his forever home November 30, 2021!
Updates
Rex wakes up around 8 am for a quick potty break and a quick meal; after his meal he plays with his squeaky toys and takes a nap curled up on the couch. After his nap he is ready for another potty break around 11 am, he goes on a 2 mile daily walk around 2 pm where he loves to chase squirrels up the trees and watch the cars go by. Dinner is served at 5:30 pm followed by more playtime. He tends to like to play by himself rather than with people but will play tug of war for a while, and go for another potty break around 8 pm. Rex is finally all tired out and goes for his last potty break around 11 pm before heading to his crate to bed.
When Rex meets new people inside and outside of the home he is very shy, he tends to tuck his tail but will warm up. He does better when he approaches others first and then receives attention rather than others showing him attention first. Rex has not had any exposure to children while I’ve been fostering him.
Rex has a medium energy level and would rather be cuddled up on the couch being pet than outside playing. He does require longer walks as he still loves to be outside and enjoys walking even though he does not do that well on a leash. We have found that a harness works better on him as it is easier to handle him on walks as he loves to roam and chase after squirrels and rabbits.
He has not been exposed to other dogs while in my foster care, but his previous owner indicated he did fine with the other larger dog in the house. Because of his high prey drive, he should not go to a home with cats or other small animals.
When left alone in the crate he will sleep until you come back, he is very well behaved and does not bark to noises that he hears. When left alone outside of his crate he will cry and bark at the door and become very anxious.
Rex currently has a skin condition and needs to be bathed 2-3 times a week with Ketohex shampoo and receives antibiotic capsules by mouth twice daily until cleared up.
Rex is a very lovable sweet dog, he is very well behaved and very calm. He does not play that much and does not fetch a ball, but will cuddle with you all day long. He also needs a nice quiet place to go potty as well as an area that other dogs tend not to use or he will refuse to go.
