PUPDATE #2

Pumpkin recently stayed a week with a sitter and did amazing! Pumpkin was a little nervous to meet her sitter and barked at her, but once her sitter crouched down and Pumpkin was able to give her a sniff, she got very wiggly and excited to meet a new person! Her sitter said she spent most of her days lounging on the bed, and occasionally playing with her sitter’s dogs. She said Pumpkin did really well on her walks and didn’t show any serious reactivity! One of the sitters dogs is another female “alpha” type dog but they actually got along very well because they both enjoy the company of other dogs! Pumpkin was a bit slower to warm up to her sitter’s husband, but by the end of the week she was very comfortable with him.

I think Pumpkin could be happy in a lot of different homes, but she would LOVE a house with another dog to play with, and a fenced in back yard where she could go potty and play! She can become protective of her people and home, but she is very smart and receptive to training, and there is a period of settling in that she goes through in a new place when she is not reactive, and would respond well to being exposed to any new things or people that would continue to be a part of her life!

PUPDATE #1

Pumpkin loves to spend her days at doggy daycare! She has a great group of doggy friends who like to play with the same wild energy that she has! By the end of the day she is tired out and just wants to hang out on the couch with a chew toy, or go to bed! Pumpkin is good at reading dog cues, but she can be over excited for some dogs. At home, Pumpkin does very well with her submissive foster brother. She likes to be the boss, and can guard her food, favorite toys, and people from other dogs. She is not a good fit for a home with another dog who also wants to be the boss. Pumpkin needed a slow introduction to the resident cat because she was very excited to meet him. After time she has become a very gentle and loving sister!

Pumpkin is an absolute sweetheart to women she meets outside the home. She seems to have some fear of men and will bark at them when on leash. Pumpkin takes home protection seriously, and is very wary of any new people in or around her house. She will need someone to work with her on polite introductions. Pumpkin has not had exposure to children in our care.

When Pumpkin gets more exercise, she becomes calmer and less reactive in all aspects of life! She does well with a regular schedule of daycare. At a minimum she probably needs two long walks each day, about 30 minutes each.

Pumpkin does very well when left alone. She does not counter surf or raid the trash can. She does not chew on non-toys. She WILL bark at people she sees in the window, or if someone knocks at the door, but she does not bark otherwise.

Pumpkin has been affectionately and appropriately nicknamed Punky. She is an adorable little rascal that will steal your heart. She needs a home where she is taught she can’t always be the boss, and where she gets plenty of stimulation! In return she will give you the sweetest kisses on the nose, plenty of snuggles, and a lifetime of wiggly happiness.
