Poppy found her family February 19, 2021!

PUPDATE 2

Poppy the puppy continues to give us laughs each day as she settles into our home. Like most of us, she hasn’t been a fan of this extremely cold weather so we have been staying mostly indoors. Poppy still has a lot of her puppy energy, so she’s found new ways to entertain herself. A recent discovery is her tail which she enjoys chasing for a few minutes. Then, she’ll find her favorite toy to shake or involve us in her fun by playing fetch. Once she’s tired, she enjoys bingeing on some of her go-to TV shows – her favorite is Pit Bulls and Parolees. Yes, she does actually watch TV.

Poppy’s potty training is going very well. It’s been about a week since her last accident. Since it’s been so cold, we have not been able to work much on her leash skills. When it gets just a bit warmer, we’ll continue to work on not pulling. Inside, we’ve been working on the place command and stay. Last weekend, she did get to go on a trip to Mound’s Pet Food Warehouse to pick out some treats and toys. She was initially nervous, but seemed to settle down as she got used to her environment. Like any young pup, continued socialization and training will be key as she continues to figure out the ways of the world.

PUPDATE 1

Poppy, aka Poppyseed, Poppy Long-Stocking and Poppy the Puppy, is ready to find her forever home. If you are looking for a life-long companion with a big personality, Poppy might be your girl.

Poppy’s hobbies include hopping through the snow maze in the backyard, chewing on her bones, annoying her dog foster brother, and participating in extreme snuggling with all humans in the house. Poppy is medium-high energy with spurts of zoomies followed by a hard crash. Poppy loves to play and considers the other dog in the home a bit of a downer. She does need gentle reminders to leave him alone when he is not up for play. We crate her on and off throughout the work day as she is still perfecting her house training. When crated at night and let out on a regular basis throughout the day, she is catching on quickly. Poppy settles in without a peep at night to the crate, but when crated during the day she will sometimes bark for a few minutes before settling down.

Poppy is very smart and would do best in a home that is dedicated to helping her grow up to be a model K9 citizen! She is sweet as pie and has the cutest facial expressions, but she sometimes uses that to her advantage to get away with barking at the neighbors on walks and exploring the counters for food. We have been working on some basic training with her and she catches on very quick - she can sit, down and stay!

We have not seen Poppy with cats or kids. She could do well in a home open to her energetic puppy antics!

Overall, Poppy has been a joy to have in our home. She keeps us entertained and never at a loss for snuggles. While she will be tough to say goodbye to, we can’t wait to see what adventures await her next.
