If I had to define a one-year lab mix, it would be Paul. He is a super fun, friendly, energetic pup who wants to play as much as possible, is food motivated, and eager to learn. If you're looking for a large ball of energy - you've found it. Paul is a big ol' puppy at 68lbs and continuing to grow.

Paul is doing very well in his new foster home. He is easily persuaded into his 'spot' (the kennel) with a treat or two. Once kenneled, he quickly settles in and can be left alone without issue. He sleeps through the night and is happy to be let out come morning. He's fully potty trained and has had no accidents since arriving.

Paul's biggest challenge is finding an outlet for his energy. When he doesn't have one he can get overly excited and mouthy, but we've been very successful at redirecting him with high value toys and helping him to focus and settle down. On walks Paul is capable of good loose leash walking, but does struggle when he's excited. Paul is working on his leash manners — he mostly is so excited to see people and dogs on walks that he vocalizes that excitement. He politely greets humans and dogs on walks once he gets to meet them. Rabbits/birds are still very big distractions for him. Since getting some time in daycare to play with other dogs, Paul has greatly improved with his leash manners.

Paul does very well with other dogs - all he wants is someone to play with! He would do very well in a home that already has a dog that Paul can focus his play energy on. But a home without a dog that would prioritize helping to get his energy out (through training/play time) or by continuing to give him opportunities for dog play via daycare or parks would also be wonderful. Paul is a great puppy, but still needs some focus/work to be a great dog as he grows.

Paul is a loving big guy and would be a great addition to any home. He's a big guy with a big heart ready to love the right adopter.
