Officially adopted on September 5, 2020 and goes by the name Parker!
Pajamas (aka PJ) wakes up around 6 am every day and alerts us by barking. We let him out in the yard, with supervision because he is small enough to wiggle under the fence and has tried it! We keep the crate pretty close to the back door because he still sometimes has excited pee when he gets let out of the crate first thing in the morning. He loves playing with our resident dog, and then heads back inside for his breakfast. Pajamas has been getting pretty good at waiting for his breakfast, rather than jumping up on us as we prepare. PJ gets fed in the crate, and he has growled before at our resident dog when our dog got too close to the crate while he was eating. We have been working on correcting that behavior. During the day, he is crated while we work, and gets a bathroom break every 3-4 hours. He has not had any accidents in the house or crate, other than when he has gotten overly excited. He really does not like the crate, so we have been working on building positive associations by playing crate games and feeding him in his crate. Especially when he sees you working or sees our cat roaming, he will bark loudly because he just wants to join in on the fun! PJ has been able to settle himself usually within 10 minutes (as long as there's not repeated stimulation) and will fall asleep. After work, PJ gets a lot more playtime and outside-the-crate time. He loves toys and likes to go pick out new ones and bring them to his crate. He has gone on some short walks, but he doesn't like being on a leash so will often jerk backwards like he's trying to get out of his collar. At the end of the day, he gets dinner and one more potty break at 10 pm.
PJ loves humans! He has a ton of energy and wants to snuggle and play. He loves tummy rubs. He has met an older child and did great. However, with small children, I'd be concerned about him jumping up on them too much or being a little too much energy.
He is high energy. Pajamas requires a lot of playtime to get him tired out. He does not like walking on a leash, so that hasn't been an effective form of exercise so far. He does try to pull backwards off the leash if he is a) going somewhere he doesn't want to go, which is often or b) he sees something he's scared of.
PJ loves other dogs. He has had a playdate with one of his littermates. He also loves playing with our resident dog who is also young and full of energy. He has sniffed our cat but otherwise left him alone.
When PJ is left alone in his crate, he will bark loudly and whine. His whining actually sounds like a baby crying. He usually settles himself within 10 minutes, but if he hears a noise (like if our cat walks in), he will start barking again and will take a little while to settle again. However, if left outside the crate, he is totally quiet. He has escaped his crate in the night before (we have a slightly broken crate) and just fallen asleep. I wouldn't leave him alone outside of the crate for too long without supervision because he does like to chew - his favorite thing to chew is blankets and towels. He has chewed a hole in the blanket before with his sharp puppy teeth! He has also tried to munch charger wires and our wooden steps outside but has given up on that almost immediately.
Pajamas needs someone who will continue working on his crate training and building positive associations with the crate. Because his barking is quite loud, he would probably do best in a house so that his crate barking can't be heard by your neighbors. He is a very cute puppy though and has a lot of love to give. He loves toys and playtime, and will make you very happy with his antics.
