PUPDATE 2

Nyla continues to do well in our household. Now that she is off activity restriction, it is so fun to watch her run and bounce and play with our other dogs. She’s actually pretty decent at playing fetch (can’t say the same for our resident dogs…). She’s even done well being quiet in her crate when we have our new kitten out in the living room. I’ve included new videos of Nyla running free in the link above. Someone is going to get such a great dog in their home with Nyla.

PUPDATE 1

Nyla is one of the sweetest, most loving dogs we’ve fostered! She is in her final days of activity restriction as part of her heartworm treatment, so we’ve had plenty of time to get to know her and get her settled into a routine.

Nyla does very well sleeping in her crate overnight. She’ll give a bark in the morning if we take too long to get her out once we are up and moving, but otherwise she quiet. We take her out to go potty (she goes right away!) then it’s time for breakfast. She’s got a hearty appetite and quickly finishes her food. We take her out soon after to go poop. She has had some accidents if we don’t pay attention to her signals to be let out. But that has gotten a lot better as she settled into her routine.

She gets crated during the day while we’re away at work. She will bark at first when she can hear us moving around before we leave, but giving her a kong with peanut butter helps distract her.

When we get home from work, she goes out to potty again before coming in to hang out on the couch before dinner. Then there are a few more bathroom breaks and snuggling/playing in the living room with our resident dog until it’s time to go back in the crate for bedtime.

Nyla has done very well having her activity level restricted for the past four months during her heartworm treatment. It’ll be exciting to see her run and play in our fenced yard in just a few short days. She’s a very playful girl and loves to play tug with squeaky toys. She will approach the people and dogs in her foster home with a toy in her mouth, asking to play tug. See the videos above for examples of this adorable behavior! She gets along well with dogs of all ages and sizes. She was a great playmate for a puppy when she was at a dog sitter’s for a long weekend.

We haven’t gone on many walks due to her activity restriction, but she appears to respond well to a prong collar when she starts to pull and get excited about the sights and smells in new places.

Nyla would also do best in a house or other setting in which there aren’t many flights of stairs or elevators. She was quite scared of those things when she stayed with a dog sitter for a weekend.

Nyla also has a fairly strong prey drive and would do best in a house without cats to catch her attention.

Overall, it has been a blast fostering our sweet Nyla. We already have two resident dogs so we don’t have room to add another to the family. That’s great news for those reading this bio because it means she’s available to join your family and bring you years of love, loyalty, and snuggles.
