Updates

It’s happily ever after for Morgan on December 18, 2020!

A morning with Morgan starts around 7:00am, although she is content to sleep in until 8:00 or 9:00. She goes outside for a short bathroom break and then comes inside to wake up and eat breakfast while I get ready. During my average workday from 8:00am to 4:00pm we go outside 2-3 times for a bathroom break to prevent accidents inside and I make sure to keep toys available to her. I feed her and then we go on a 45 minute to 1 hour long walk in the evenings. As long as she has enough daily exercise and mental stimulation, she's content to curl up on the bed and snuggle in the early mornings and evenings. She's then crated from when I go to bed until when I wake up!

Morgan loves people and has experience with numerous kinds of people. She loves everyone she meets, even more so if they give her treats! She has shown no aggression when new people enter the home or when meeting new people in our home.

She has had extremely minimal exposure to children, so we have no idea how she will do. She did meet a three-year-old child recently and was very curious and excited about this young human. She did not show any concerning behaviors in this very brief amount of time.

Morgan came to us without any basic training and didn't seem to have any prior experience with walking on a leash. She does best with at least 45 minutes of walking per day and can keep up with as much exercise as you give her. She is also a smart dog and needs mental stimulation to stay content. She is fed using a Kong Wobbler to make her work for her food, and we spend an additional 10 to 30 minutes working on basic obedience each day. As of December 9th, she's learned sit, down, and shake. She is getting better at walking on a loose leash, and does well when walked on a shorter lead with a nylon martingale.

She has not met any dogs in my home, but she has met other dogs in our building lobby and is completely friendly to them there. She is the only dog in our household and has been great with other dogs when she meets them on walks. Morgan is always very friendly and gets so excited, she's often more excited to meet the other dog than the other dog is to meet her.  She has no exposure to cats.

Morgan is crated when left alone and behaves well when crated. As she's gotten more comfortable in our home, she's started protesting being crated. This "complaining" is very minimal and she quiets down quickly when she's ignored and has something to keep her busy.

Morgan is mostly potty-trained and does well in our 6th floor apartment. She will signal when she has to go outside by going to the door and sometimes nudging the bells and/or her leash. Sometimes her signals are more subtle, and she has peed inside when we miss her more subtle signals. She does not have accidents in her crate but needs to be taken out every 2 to 4 hours when she's free-roaming the apartment. She'll likely do even better with house training in a home that has direct indoor/outdoor access. She is learning to not chew on household items like plants and pillows and does well as long as she has her own toys to chew on. She has a particular affinity for stuffed toys (she loves her stuffed dragon) and Nylabones. Napping and cuddling are some of her favorite pastimes, and she's a total sweetheart. Everyone who meets her falls in love!
