Updates

Moose found his forever home on September 5 in Connecticut thanks to the help of Susie’s Senior Dogs!

PUPDATE 5

Moose has been working hard to shed a few pounds. He originally came from Louisiana at 100 pounds. He has since worked hard through diet and frequent shorter walks. He is proud to announce his new weight is 84 pounds. The vet would like to see an ideal weight of 80 pounds. Since losing the weight, his foster family has noticed a significant increase in energy, trotting on walks and just all around a happier boy.

Moose is helping dog sit a male chihuahua/jack russell mix for the week. This is the smallest dog Moose has interacted with (under 20 lbs) and he was immediately interested in him. We can’t explain why but Moose seems to like smelling and following the smaller dog around the house. Moose prefers to drink water alone and we’re teaching the other dogs in the house to wait their turn for water.

PUDPATE 4

Moose stayed with a sitter for a week and a half while his foster parents were away. The sitter had three cats in the home. Two of the cats were brave enough to come down and meet Moose. He enjoyed sniffing them and just coexisted with the cats. Moose Truly is a gentle giant! The sitter’s home had four steps into the home and he did those at a slow, steady pace. He continues to like walks, a good chew and nap time :)

PUPDATE 3

Moose went on an hour long road trip for a weekend to a farm! He is excellent in the car and mostly just lays down for the ride. He got to walk around fields and even found a deer bone to chew on. Moose rolled around in the grass on his back like a puppy!

He made friends with a 40 pound male jack russell/australian cattle dog very quickly.. Moose was all about getting pets from the new people he met. He made his rounds to show off his friendly nature.

Moose has started meeting kids in our neighborhood. He met two girls ages 8 and 10 years old. He stood patiently while they pet him. Moose really is best described as a gentle giant that kids want to meet. It’s not every day you see a 94 lb pup walking down the sidewalk!

Bath time is really pretty easy with Moose! The shower is on the second floor of our home so Moose gets bath time at Pet Supplies Plus. He goes on a short car trip and then walks into a lower entry dog wash. He is not happy about bath time but handles it like a champ. After his bath, he gets a treat to end his adventure.

PUDPATE 2

Moose held a play group this week at his foster home with a much younger 2 year old male pittie. He was a little scared at first and needed an hour to get used to his new friend. The dogs did great the rest of the week.

Moose has longer fur that requires brushing a few time a week to help minimize shedding in the house. We use a Furminator brush that works very well. We find brushing an excellent way to bond with Moose.

Moose has taken up cooking as of late. He likes to be with his people in the kitchen just to see what’s happening.

PUDPATE 1

Moose became an instant buddy with his new foster parents. He is very people focused!

Moose goes for a morning walk around 7 am. Then he's fed breakfast and spends the day lounging on various orthopedic dog beds or the floor. He does not climb up on furniture. Moose lives on the first floor since he doesn’t like to do more than 2 steps at a time. He will need a home with minimal steps. Lunch time is another nice short walk. The afternoon is spent laying the deck or finding a soft bed inside. Dinner time is around 5 pm. Moose likes getting pets, being brushed and just hanging with his humans at night.

He is very affectionate towards his foster parents and meeting new neighbors. He just loves a good pet and attention. He has poor eyesight so kids under 6 years old might be tough.

Moose is a really low energy guy. He walks a few blocks and that's plenty exercise for him. He takes a daily joint supplement with breakfast. Moose does very well on leash when walking in a suburban neighborhood. He loves to follow scent trails from small animals in the backyard.

He lives with a 30 lb 4 year old dog male who is also low energy. They don't really play but both enjoy napping in the same room. Moose did well meeting the neighbor’s dog (70 pound male lab). He let the neighbor dog sniff him and they both just laid down.  Moose does not have cats in his foster home.

Moose can free roam in the house with no accidents. He's been left up to 7 hours alone. At night, he sleeps on the first floor and is allowed to free roam.

Moose had 9 teeth pulled during his dental surgery and he’s like a new dog. He always loved to eat before but now dinner time is so much more exciting. Le’ts just say canned food was a big hit for the two weeks he recovered from his dental. He now eats hard food just fine. Since Moose is senior guy, he has several masses that require monitoring.  Three masses were shown to be benign at this time.

Moose is a gentle giant with a huge heart. He just wants a family to give him pets, brush and fawn over him. Moose is an easy-going guy who would be great for a first time owner.
