PUPDATE 2
Moon continues to be such a joy to have in our home. She has a playful, sweet, and goofy demeanor. Her favorite days are when she can romp and play with her foster sister in the yard then come in for a snuggle with her foster dad (as she thinks she is a lap dog). Moon met three dog-savvy children ages 2 through 5 and was interested in running and playing with them. She does sometimes go in for a face-lick, but her play buddies were aware of and used to that.
We’ve been continuing to work with Moon on her leash training. We’ve been riding in the car to different areas (she does great in the car) to give her exposure to different neighborhoods. For the most part, she doesn’t pull and walks gently by our sides. When it’s the rabbit witching hour, that brings on a lot of exciting stimuli for her and she tends to pull more and forget her skills. She is getting better at focusing on us instead of the rabbits when we give her plenty of treats. Moonie has also had the chance to be around more dogs on the leash and is learning appropriate manners. While she does still pull to try to greet the dog, she is more easily redirected. She has met a few different dogs on-leash as well, and as long as it’s a slow and controlled intro, she does well. Moonie has come so far with her leash skills in the past few weeks and we joke that she walks better than our resident dogs now!
PUPDATE 1
Meet Moon, a sweet gal from the Texas who is loving life in Wisconsin. In the short time Moonie has been with us, she has really let her big personality shine. Moon is enthusiastic about everything – greeting you when you get up in the morning, running into the backyard to ensure the turkeys stay on the other side of the fence, and snuggling as close as possible to your face on the couch.
Moon loves to play with her foster sister -- they like to chase and wrestle, but then does settle down for a nice nap in the sun before starting again. Due to Moon’s big personality (and size) she can be too much for some dogs – she’s done well when set up for success with slow intros.
We’ve also learned she’s not a city gal as the hustle and bustle overexcites her. She would do best in a home with space to run and play like the country (or suburban) girl she is.
Moon needs to continue to improve her leash skills – she is reactive on-leash to other dogs that aren’t in her pack and pulls to get near them. She is very strong, so we are using a few tools (Easy Walk harness) to correct this behavior and figure out what works best.
Inside the home, Moon is pretty laid back once she has settled in—she’s already crate and potty trained. She loves to follow you around to check out the action and will play with her stuffed toys on and off. At night, she just lays right next to our bed on her dog bed and sleeps all the way through the night (score one for her foster parents).
Overall, Moon is super sweet fun girl that with continued guidance and love will be the perfect addition to a home looking for their forever snuggle and adventure buddy.
