Updates

Michel is happy to report he found his forever family on November 17, 2020!

Michelangelo likes to wake up early and spend his morning eating breakfast and going for a walk. During workdays, he spends up to 6 hours in a play pen, during which he feels pretty anxious and tends to whine/bark. He will consistently relieve himself on a puppy pad (no accidents). Each afternoon, he eats his lunch, goes on another walk, and spends the rest of the time snoozing/playing. In the evenings, he eats dinner, plays with his toys, and starts his evening naps around 7 pm.

Michelangelo is cautious at first when meeting new people, but quickly warms up to them. He is a fan favorite around the neighborhood for his loving.

He does well with children and has had exposure to kids between the ages of 4 and 12. Again, he tends to be cautious at first, but quickly warms up. Before introducing Michelangelo to any children, we always make clear that he is still learning to play nicely and sometimes will nip.

Michelangelo loves to play hard and sleep hard, but he can spend the day relaxing as well. Though sometimes he will dictate the energy level that we all play at, he can be pretty receptive to the level that we are currently modeling at home.

After practicing a couple times a day, Michelangelo has started doing really well on walks. He needs some coaxing here and there, but he has been completing 15-30 minute walks consistently for us. Very seldomly will Michelangelo pull on the leash, and when he does, it is not with much force.

Like his interactions with people, he approaches other dogs slowly at first, but once he learns that they are safe, he quickly switches to play mode. He does get overwhelmed with dogs who are more assertive with their play habits.

He has not any exposure to cats.

Michelangelo does not enjoy being alone when it is not his choice. He is perfectly content walking away from us and doing something on his own, but when we do the same, he becomes anxious and will bark/whine if he is unable to get to us. His main issue with crate training right now is self-soothing with being on his own. He also whines and barks when we leave him alone in his play pen during the workday or errands. Michelangelo will need a family who is willing to work with him on his separation anxiety.

Current likes: leaves and sticks, chewing on toys, treats, snoozing, chasing balls, subtly chasing cars during walks, tight spaces to crawl under, running home at the end of a walk

Current dislikes: being alone, louder/unusual noises

Currently working on: crate training/separation anxiety, playful biting/mouthiness, mastering potty training
