Meet Melissa, Mellie for short! She is a sweet and spunky, 4.5 month old Shepherd mix. Mellie was saved from a Texas shelter and recently arrived in Wisconsin. She is reserved at first, but warms up quickly, especially when treats are involved! Mellie LOVES her foster parents and enjoys snuggling in their laps or following them around. She is fostered with three other dogs, all larger than her, and gets along well with them. Mellie occasionally plays with her foster siblings, but does not pester them like some puppies do.
Mellie has recently learned that toys are fun and enjoys a game of fetch or tug. She loves to chew on a bone and has not tried to chew on things that are not for dogs. She is very food motivated and incredibly smart. She quickly learned “sit”, “down”, and her name! Mellie is working on potty training and is getting better every day - with a schedule, she will be potty trained in no time. She is crate trained and sleeps almost through the night in her crate, with
only one bathroom break halfway through. During the day she is crated and given a short potty break around lunch time.
Mellie would be fine as an only dog or with other canine siblings. Though she is shy at first, once she is comfortable, she loves her people a lot. Mellie has not met cats or children in her current foster home. Due to her good behavior around other dogs and indifference towards the neighborhood wildlife, I assume she would be fine with feline siblings. She has not met any children, but due to her age and typical puppy habits, a home with older children would be better for her. Mellie is a happy puppy and she can’t wait to meet her forever family!
