Maya is a 3 year old lab mix who was adopted out to a family and returned to Fetch because of her family's life circumstances. She was extremely loved and very well cared for and is a perfect dog for someone who likes a dog with a little energy. Originally Maya was rescued from a shelter in Arkansas. She is a classic shadow/velcro dog and wants to be where her humans are adnd she loves a good snuggle when she’s tired.
Energy Level:
She has a medium high energy level and would need a walking/running/hiking partner or another dog to play with in the home or other form of dog playdates. She has good leash manners and does not pull but tends to stop and sniff a lot along the way. She can easily walk 3-5 miles and still have energy to play for a bit after. If she doesn’t get her exercise she can become vocal telling you to get her out and move.
Training:
She is very smart and is easy to train. She redirects very easily for treats and/or a toy. She loves chew toys (calming for dogs; aggressive level chewer) and loves tearing apart stuffed toys to destroy those evil squeakers. She also loves peanut butter kongs/mats, snuffle mats, enrichment puzzles, and stuffed animal toys with squeakers.
Crate Training:
She is crate trained and will take less than 2 minutes to settle down with a little whining/barking. If she’s tired at night whining has been down to 15 seconds and she’s asleep. If she hasn’t gotten her exercise she can be a little more vocal. Maya can free roam in the house if she has had her exercise.
Dogs:
Maya can be a little bit shy when meeting a new dog. If she greets another dog she will start playing after a minute or so of knowing it’s ok. We haven’t met a dog that she doesn’t like. If you don’t want her to meet a dog she will also happily walk by them at a heel.
Cats:
Maya is excellent with cats. She lives with cats in her foster home and she lived with a cat in her previous adopter's home. She'll just walk up to them and sniff them and say hello.
Kids:
Maya was introduced to quite a few kids when she was with her adoptive parents and did excellent with all of them. When Maya has extra energy
Potty Training:
Maya has been living in houses for over 2 years now, so she is fully potty trained. She does “go potty” and “go poop” on command.
Car Rides:
She will just curl up in a tiny ball in the back seat of quietly sit and look out the back window. She does not rush to get out when the door is open.
Maya truly is the sweetest dog and would make a great addition to an active home.
