Updates

May wakes up between 7:30 and 8:30 am when I wake up. She isn’t always ready to wake up and sometimes has to be coaxed out of her warm cozy bed. After a big stretch she goes right outside to potty and play for a bit. She then eats breakfast which she is always very excited for! The rest of the day she alternates between playing with the other dogs in the yard and napping inside. She typically plays for 1-2 hours and then naps for 2-3 hours throughout the day. She has free access to her food all day and she is quite the eater. She’s growing very fast! She has to be taken out to potty about every hour or two during the day while she’s awake. If I have to leave her longer than that, she stays in a puppy pen with pee pads. We’re currently about 90% there with potty training, and she’s very good about pottying the second she goes outside. She usually goes to sleep around 8-9 pm, then gets one more potty break around 11 pm and then sleeps through the night in her crate. She is perfectly quiet in her crate and cuddles right in to go to sleep.

May loves people and will go up to anyone and jump on them for attention! She doesn’t mind being picked up but she is very wiggly, and only really likes to cuddle when she is tired. When she’s tired she will climb right on your lap to cuddle up and go to sleep.

May loves kids but she will jump and mouth like a typical puppy. She is mostly good about licking rather than mouthing, but still would have to watched around young children.

May is a medium energy puppy. She is still working on learning to walk on a leash and mostly just plays off-leash in the yard. She tends to run in short spurts and then take break time. She absolutely loves toys and will carry anything around in her mouth. She likes to take all the toys to her bed, so her bed has to be cleaned out at least once per day or there’s no room for her to fit in it!

May absolutely loves all other dogs. She currently lives with several older dogs as well as a 5 month old puppy who is just her size. They play together all day and she will make the cutest little squeaking noises while they chase each other. May will also try to play with the older dogs but they don’t always appreciate her puppy antics. She is very good about backing off if they growl at her.

May has met my two barn cats; they avoid her and she ignores them. She might be more interested in a cat if there weren’t other dogs around, but since she’s way more interested in her doggy friends, they tend to occupy her attention.

May stays in a puppy pen with access to her crate/bed when left alone during the day. Sometimes she will play with her toys but mostly she will just sleep when left alone. She never cries. She will use the puppy pads to potty if I have to be gone longer than a few hours, but has been better and better about holding it till I get home. I have not left her alone for more than 4-5 hours. If I am gone more during the day and she doesn’t get as much playtime, she will be more energetic in the evening.

May is a purebred French bulldog and while this breed is unbelievably sweet and adorable, they are prone to more health problems than the average dog. Adopters are encouraged to research the breed before applying, and May is probably not the best breed choice for someone with limited finances.
