PUPDATE 3

Maeve loves the outside world and we have found out that she is the best walker we've ever had! She doesn't like to be leashed and taken off our property, BUT as soon as we get to the road (we don't have sidewalks) she walks loose leash at a heel and looks up at me for direction. People walking with their dogs or dogs barking at her from their yards don't phase her-we just keep walking. We even had a baby bunny run 10 feet in front of us and she ignored it! She does chase the barn swallows when in our yard off leash though. I was hesitant to take my husband and/or stroller walking with us and I got the biggest surprise when Maeve happily walked between us.

She is great in the car and is not afraid or bothered by fireworks!

We had my sister and family visiting us for a week and I could not have been more surprised by this shy dog. My sister has 3 kids (5yo, 9yo, 11yo) and Maeve was definitely not a fan of them running around inside, but outside she had a blast. By the 4th day of their stay she was happy to sit on the couch with them for pets while they played video games. As long as Maeve came to them, it was a good happy dog interaction. She would skidder away if they tried to approach her.

We took Maeve to our friend's house (male with a dog) and she had a good time with the dogs in his fenced in yard. She was happy to find the stash of "new" toys and hung out in the same room with us inside. She did not want to be approached and was a bit nervous, but overall did well.

We adore her and love that she is finding her stride. We're going to be working with a trainer on her indoor fears of being leashed and are excited to continue to build her confidence.

PUPDATE 2

In the weeks that we've had Maeve she has come out of her shell and is learning how to dog. I call her my little shadow because she loves to follow me around. She is currently curled up on the couch with one of my resident dogs and myself. She is still a nervous lady especially when we walk around although she loves coming to hang out when I'm cooking in the kitchen. This girl also loves toys. She will gather her toys in her different beds throughout the house or carry her toys to wherever she is hanging out. When we're inside she likes to play with her toys alone or wrestle with our two dogs. Outside, she gets the zoomies in the yard and will run around with me, but isn't sure what to do with our resident dogs.

Maeve stayed with a sitter for 5 days when we were out of town and mostly stayed in her crate. She did well with going outside when tempted with peanut butter, but wasn't thrilled with the adult male in the house. During this time she was able to reconnect with her sister! They had a good time, but was still a bit nervous with the humans around.

We are working on her confidence and basic commands. She is so sweet and wants to please, she just needs to work on overcoming her nervousness. Having patience is key to forming an amazing lifelong bond with Maeve.

PUPDATE 1

Maeve sleeps in or around her crate or at the foot of our bed and will wait until I get up around 8AM to go outside. She will follow our two resident dogs around both outside and inside, but is becoming more independent. Maeve prefers to be wherever we are and observe. As each day goes by she becomes more confident and has started curling up next to me on the couch. Midafternoon we will take her out for a short walk to potty, she will be fed again around 5pm and then go out around 7pm and again for "last call" at 10pm.

It is obvious that Maeve has not been around a lot of humans. She is extremely nervous when we're walking around and will tuck her tail and scurry. So having patience and letting her come to you is a must! I have gotten a lot of kisses and tail wags, but it is slower going with my 6'3" husband. She has come a long way in the four weeks we've had her (adult couple, a 7 month old child, a 10 year old cat and 2 resident dogs). When we leave the room, she will follow us and clearly wants to be our companion. After three weeks of calm, Maeve has started to get the zoomies outside. We have a large yard and a 50 foot leash so she can run with our resident dogs.

Maeve is super gentle with our 7 month old child. She will come and give her a couple sniffs but isn't too interested. She was very nervous around our neighbor 6 and 9 year old boys and ran to go back inside, but the kids were running around with our two resident dogs so it was definitely understandable! Like with adults, she will need some patience to get her used to being around human movements especially fast-moving kids.

Maeve likes to quietly observe the world around her. She has been a great loose leash walker although will have a tendency to either sit or scurry back to the house when nervous or when she sees other people. She needs time to adjust to a new place especially with walking. With time she'll likely be a medium energy dog that will enjoy a couple longer walks a day and lots of play.

Our two resident dogs have been showing her the life of much loved dogs and she has been following them around and likes to sit near them both inside and outside. She's a little nervous about wrestling with them, but enjoys chasing tennis balls with them. Maeve has enjoyed meeting other dogs and playing. She is very good at taking cues from other dogs. Having a dog brother/sister and slow introductions would be helpful to bring her out of her shell and meet both human and dog strangers.

Maeve has zero interest in our resident cat even when she runs and is being playful with our dogs.

We trust Maeve out and about when we leave the house and she has never had an accident or any destructive behavior.

Maeve has being treated with a round of antibiotics for anaplasma. She never showed any active signs of infection.

Maeve is such a sweetheart and will make a loving companion for the right family. She will need patience and time to warm up to get her to be the confident dog we know she can be. She has never barked or shown any signs of aggression. Her tail wags and expressive ears will make your heart melt.
