August 15th marks Hermione’s adoption day!
Hermione wakes up at about 5:30am for a combo potty break, breakfast, potty break. She then spends time playing with the kiddos age 8 & 3 and our resident puppy. Once exhausted from this she naps, has lunch and repeats until bedtime around 9pm in her crate. She will let us know 1-2 times/night that she needs to go potty.
Hermione loves everyone. She wags her tail and cuddles up to anyone who will welcome her. She hasn't really noticed anything outside yet on our walks as she is distracted with smells and exploring the yards around her. Hermione does well with children. She enjoys playing games like chase around the house and then welcomes a good cuddle and nap when playtime is over.
She goes out frequently as she is still potty training. Hermione keeps herself busy with play by herself, with the resident dog or with the kids so she doesn't need any additional exercise requirements at this point. The amount of walks and additional exercise she will need will expand as she grows. Australian cattle dogs are a working breed and will require increasing exercise and mental stimulation.
Hermione hasn't really noticed other dogs outside yet. She does well with our resident dog who is 1 year old, 60# lab mix. They play well together. Hermione is learning to respect separate spaces during feeding times, so she does eat independently in her crate. She has picked up quickly on manners and the command 'sit' by observing our resident dog. Hermione has not met a cat yet.
As far as we can tell she does well when alone. She is crated separately from the other dog and doesn't whine when we leave and is quiet when we return. The two dogs are crated right next to one another. She is still too young for us to feel comfortable leaving her to free roam. She has minimal, if any, potty accidents in her crate. The longest she has been alone is 3 hours.
Hermione is a sweet, soft, cuddly dog. She communicates when she needs to go outside and night and is doing well with potty training during the day! She is responsive to her surroundings and loves feeding times, so she responds well to training basic commands at those time. Hermione does well independently and enjoys playtime with the people and animals she resides with. It will be fun to watch her develop and begin to notice the world around her.
