Low Ridin' Buddy wakes up when we do in the morning! After breakfast, him and his foster brother either go on a nice walk or go to our friend's house to spend the day running around in the backyard. On days where he's home with us, LRB likes to take a morning nap in his crate for 2-3 hours after his walk. He wakes up re-energized and looking for snuggles or a sunny spot to rest in. He usually takes an afternoon walk too, then returns home to relax until dinnertime. LRB is ready to wind down for the night around 8:30 or 9 pm. He is perfectly happy to snooze on the couch or a bed while his humans are doing whatever it is humans do, until it's time to go to his crate for the night.
He knows a few commands and is working on learning more of the basics. Buddy has been very eager to learn so far and it has been fun for everyone to teach him. He has no behavioral issues at all.
LRB is a wonderful companion inside and outside the home. This little guy is BIG on affection and really deserves a family that will give him lots and lots of it. His #1 priority is human contact. He just LOVES physical touch and eye contact with all people! He will follow his people around the house just to see what they're doing and be near them while they do it. He sits politely by the dinner table while we eat and is quick to join us in a comfy spot on the couch when it's movie time. He will nudge you if he wants more attention and is not afraid to get up close and personal (sweetly) to let you know. He takes redirection well if he's getting too pushy, and he understands quickly when he's in your personal space and needs to mellow out.
Buddy is a joy to take on walks and loves to meet everyone we see along the way. He has also been calm and wonderful with guests we've had over since he joined us.
LRB's gentle, happy nature makes him a dream with children. He hasn't shown any aggression or unpredictability. As long as the kids are excited to pet and snuggle a fuzzy dog - and who isn't? - LRB is their best friend. Our two kids (8 and 10) love to hang out on the couch with him while watching movies or TV.
LRB is a medium-energy pup. He can get moving at quite a trot in spite of his low-ridin' nature! He is always up for a walk if you are. He loves to investigate squirrels, birds, rabbits, and anything else he encounters out in nature. He's a wonderful leash dog - no pulling, and very compliant when you need him to stop.
After humans, Buddy's favorite thing in the world is other dogs. He approaches them gently and calmly, without barking or getting wild. He always seems a little disappointed if the other pup isn't interested in meeting him, but no snapping or aggressive tendencies. He tolerates play. Buddy's foster brother likes to put his front paws on Buddy and sniff and groom Buddy's ears. This goes over just fine with LRB. He has no exposure to cats
LRB does fine when left alone, especially if he's tired and needs a nap after a nice walk. He is a good crate dog. He might whine a little when he first goes in, but he quickly quiets down and relaxes until you're ready to let him out.
The Wisconsin vet noted a grade 2 heart murmur but he does not show any clinical signs. Potential adopters should talk with their vet prior to adoption. Buddy was treated with a round of antibiotics for Lymes and does not show any active signs of infection. His optimal weight is around 30 pounds so some caloric restriction is recommended. LRB will need a dental in the next 6-12 months for tartar accumulation. In the meantime, he can eat dental treats to help stop any further accumulation.
Buddy is calm, sweet, and so eager to please. He is a quiet little guy - no whining or barking. He has been patient and sweet with our high-energy, 1 year old dog. Buddy has very soft fur and doesn't shed much. He is cautious but adventurous - he was a little uncertain about the stairs at first, but he got the hang of them after only one day. His body is low to the ground, so he sometimes needs a lift to get into high spots, but he's always a good sport! Buddy is friendly and gentle with other dogs and people, including our two children (aged 8 and 10). This guy is a real gem and will be so happy and grateful to be in a warm and loving home.
