Meet Little Jr., or JR the House Horse as he’s known around here! Once he’s comfy with you, he’s a total ham, and will shamelessly snuggle in for pets. When he’s apprehensive of new things — think doorways he hasn’t walked through yet or hopping into the scale at the vet — he crawls. It’s incredibly endearing and hilarious. He’s also very into his snacks so if you have a tasty treat for him, we haven’t found anything he won’t try at least once!

JR will thrive as the center of his new family’s attention or with a canine sibling to share the spotlight with. That said, he’s hanging out in a multi-dog foster home and prefers to snuggle up with a human and watch his doggy friends play while soaking up all the pets. He loves to chase toys, but hasn’t quite figured out how to bring them back. Likewise, when his canine foster siblings try to initiate play with him, he’s very awkward and doesn’t really understand how that works yet. If you’re looking for a pup to tire out the one you have currently, I’m not so sure JR fits that bill.

He is crate trained, house trained, incredibly gentle when taking treats, and strolls along at your side on a walk. He’s a very distinguished gentleman who, at least in our home, has saved all his marking for the great outdoors and when inside, just lounges and watches out the window. Since he’s still new to our home, he’s crated when home alone as well as in the car and overnight and doesn’t mind this arrangement in the slightest. He will give a few woofs if he wants out, but if he needs to wait a bit longer, he quiets down and waits his turn. We don’t have shared walls, but if he’s crated in a different room and there’s things going on he’s not a part of, he doesn’t seem to want to join in, so I wouldn’t have concerns with him living in an apartment or similar — though he is a big dude who will need space to stretch out!

JR has not met kids or cats while in his Wisconsin foster home. He’s incredibly gentle though — except for the occasional burst of zoomies when he does jump up on his foster human currently and could absolutely accidentally knock over a small kiddo — so that habit of his aside, he likely would do fine with kiddos. He hasn’t been interested in small animals he’s seen from a distance, so with proper introduction to a dog savvy cat, I suspect he’d acclimate just fine. Overall, he seems to be on the low end of the energy spectrum and has been happiest loafing around where he can keep an eye on everything.
