Little Emma is a parvo survivor, but you would never know given her spunk and zest for life. She is incredibly sweet, curious, and bonds easily. She loves all manners of toys as well as her doggie pool. She's also been great with the dogs she's met so far, including both smaller and bigger breeds. Emma wants to get to know absolutely everyone, whether human or canine. She's curious and confident in those interactions, showing a completely easygoing and non-reactive personality.
Emma gets up around 7am and is taken out for potty immediately. After breakfast, she goes potty again and will usually take a short nap before playtime. Being so young, Emma's days are spent with a mix of energy bursts and subsequent naps. As a young puppy, Emma is still potty training and to ensure her success, she is given the opportunity to relieve herself frequently (~every 2-3 hrs.) throughout the day. Emma has already started signaling occasionally to go outside, so she is learning to tell her humans when it's time. This is not reliable yet, however, and needs to be reinforced more. At this point, Emma should not be left alone outside of her crate when her humans are gone or otherwise occupied.
Going from being with her 10 siblings to being an only dog has been quite a change for Emma, and she doesn't like to be away from her "pack" at all. She prefers to have at least one human in her reach at all times. When put in her crate throughout the day, Emma will voice her displeasure emphatically. Putting on some calming music before leaving helps her settle more quickly, but apartments are not ideal given her vocal talent and stamina. Sleeping in her crate at night presents no problems, however. She sleeps through the night without interruption and even occupies herself with her toys if she's awake earlier than everyone else!
Emma is smart, eager to learn, and very food-motivated. This is a great combination for training! Her basic commands and leash training are progressing rapidly. Now all she needs is her forever family!
