Meet Lena!
Lena is a lovable, spunky, and goofy medium-energy Great Pyrenees/Anatolian Shepherd mix. She adores people and seeks out affection. Lena greets everyone she meets with a happy tail wag. Lena is an extremely gentle pup and approaches people and other dogs calmly. She has done well with the children she has met and seems to be a lover of humans of all sizes.
Lena loves to play — she’ll toss toys for herself or romp around with other dogs. Lena has played with large and small dogs alike although she does not always seem to know her size. Lena spent a weekend with a cat and did well overall, but did react when the cat hissed at her. Lena loves being outside. Lena would enjoy a home with a yard, a family who visits the dog park, or an owner who can give her regular exercise. Lena prefers to be by the action and will follow humans around and stay busy until she is ready for a long nap.
Lena is fully potty trained. She is crate trained and sleeps through the night in her crate. We currently crate Lena while we are gone, but we anticipate she will be capable of free roaming soon. Lena walks well on a leash and makes for a nice walking companion overall. A harness may be useful for Lena so she does not pull when she gets excited about squirrels or new smells. She’s polite when meeting new people and other dogs. Lena does not seem to react to other dogs on walks except for wanting to say hello. Lena has a very good eye for squirrels and will attempt to chase them, but she can be directed back to walking with minimal effort.
Lean is working on "sit" and does so with a treat most of the time. She also responds well to a hand motion to sit. She is working on waiting for her food – something that she has already made improvements on since being in our home.
Lena showed some resource guarding behaviors, specifically around food, towards other dogs when she initially came to our home. We switched to having Lena eat in her crate for a while before trying to feed outside of the crate again. Lena has not had any issues with resource guarding since those first few days in our home. She now eats next to and at the same time as our other dog. She shares toys, bones, treats, and dog beds with our other dog without issue. Lena is fine with having her food or treats taken away and takes treats extremely gently.
If you’re looking for a gentle, affectionate companion who loves people, playtime, and naps then Lena might be the perfect match for you!
