Koopa is adorable, sweet, playful and independent enough to entertain himself but still wants to make sure he keeps you in sight. We are working on potty training (no accidents in the house since he's been here) and general good habits (no biting, jumping, etc) which he's picking up quickly. We've taken him "shopping" several times to dog friendly locations (Farm & Fleet and some local shops in our area). He does wonderfully hanging out (in the cart or when carried) and loves the attention. He's getting very used to sights, sounds, traffic, noises, etc. that he has not been exposed to before.
Consistency is key with Koopa on your expectations of him. We go out after every meal and nap time for potty and he's doing wonderful on a regular schedule. He sleeps well in a crate and I generally let him out once per night otherwise he's very quiet once he gets settled in.
Crate training is going well. He will whine (sometimes tiny howls) or grunts while he's figuring his crate out. But usually settles down within 10-15 minutes, then snoozes or watches out the window. For how young he is, he is really doing very well on the basic stuff.
Koopa's daily routine: Wakes up with us about 5:45am, a bit of play time before breakfast. He's not super food driven so will leave some of his food and come back to it once he remembers it's there. Goes out for playtime and potty before I start my work day (remote). My resident dogs (3) don't interact with him too much and though he would love a playmate, he is very respectful of their space and cues. He will spend about an hour in his crate in the morning while I'm on calls then out for a while for lunch and outside time. He will play nicely by himself or snooze at my feet in my office until the work day is done. I feed him around dinner time, then outside for some more running around. He will play in the kitchen while I'm making our dinner; we settle in for a TV show or movie, then outside before we head to bed about 10 pm. We have not gone on formal walks yet, but we have an acre of land and we do walk the perimeter several times a day for boundary training and exercise.
