Boomie is a very special little guy who was found as a stray in Texas with both his eyes matted shut. After an exam at the shelter, he was found to have a condition which is very common in small dogs called KCS. This causes dry eyes and needs to be treated with eye drops twice a day. Unfortunately by the time he was found, his left eye was so ulcerated that he was completely blind in that eye. Our vet here in Wisconsin removed the left eye so it would not cause any more problems. He is now a one-eyed dog, but he still needs eye drops in his right eye twice a day. I try to do artificial tears a couple times a day in between if I'm home, since that seems to make his eye feel a little better. In the mornings he will sometimes have a little eye discharge and need his eye cleaned out a little bit with a damp Kleenex. He is so good for his eye drops and holds his face up carefully for me to put them in. He seems to see pretty well out of his right eye, but sometimes he will bump into things like a glass door or the side of a gate. A couple times at night he has gotten lost in the backyard and wandered around crying quietly until I rescued him. But most of the time, you wouldn't know he only has one eye.
Boomie has the sweetest, gentlest personality and just wants to cuddle, be held and say hi to everyone. He is the happiest when he is in the middle of a group of people getting attention from everyone. He will go up to any stranger and wag his tail and wait for pets. He has met lots of kids at Fetch events and done great with them. He gets along great with other dogs and cats, although has not shown any interest in playing with them. He sleeps either in his crate or on my bed at night - has done great with both - and free roams during the day. He is potty trained and has not had any accidents. He does fine being left alone during the day and will sleep either on a dog bed in the living room or under the kitchen island. I think his hearing is maybe not that great, since he doesn't always wake up when I come in the door. As far as exercise, he likes to wander around the backyard but is pretty low energy. He is probably not the best dog for a walking buddy, unless you have a doggy stroller for him to ride in :)
Boomie is the bestest boy and he is the closest I've come to keeping a foster dog since my last foster fail in 2020. If I didn't have so many dogs already, I would keep him in a heartbeat. He deserves a special owner who will shower him with lots of love and cuddles.
