Kiwi is a sweet, loving, pocket-sized dog at just below 9 lbs. She is a 2-year-old shih-tzu mix who loves getting pets, napping the afternoon away, and snuggling with her people.
Kiwi has met a variety of dogs in all different sizes and loved saying hello to all of them. Kiwi may be tiny, but she doesn't let that stop her from making friends with all the big dogs.
Kiwi is currently living with multiple cats and does amazing with them. She is happy to say hello to them and then will leave them alone unless they are willing to cuddle with her; then she will be their best friend.
Kiwi has met a couple of small kids and was very gentle and loved to say hello. She loves all attention and does not mind sharing her space, toys, or food with anyone.
Kiwi is a very quiet dog and seldom barks. Even when the other dogs get worked up, she stays quiet and is just happy to be with the other dogs.
Kiwi is a low-energy dog. She will go on short walks or outside in the backyard to potty, but otherwise prefers to be inside and snuggle up on the couch. She will sometimes find a toy or bone and chew on it for a bit, but is always good about just playing with dog toys.
Kiwi has been attending Doggy Elementary School classes with Teacher's Pet Training Academy and loves attending class and saying hello to all the human and dog friends she has met there. She has been learning Sit, Down, Stay, and more during classes and is starting to use those at home as well!
Kiwi came to Wisconsin to get treatment for a corneal ulcer on her eye. After treatment with different eye drops, her ulcer is all healed up. She does still have some scar tissue that will stay for the rest of her life, but other than her eye looking a little hazy, it doesnt impact her at all.
Kiwi does get car sick in the car. We have tried a variety of things to help her be more comfortable in the car, dramamine, a booster seat, having the windows down, but Kiwi still would get carsick, typically at the end of the car ride. Kiwi recently got Zofran from the vet and that helped her be more comfortable in the car and she didnt puke! This is a med you will have to get from your vet in the future, but it has really helped Kiwi be more comfortable for car rides.
Kiwi sleeps in a crate when we aren’t home and is always quiet and settles down for a nap right away. Kiwi loves to sleep in bed with her humans at night, but also does great sleeping in her crate at night.
Kiwi is mostly potty-trained but has had a couple of accidents as she adjusts to her new foster home. When she needs to go potty, Kiwi will find her humans and be a little antsy to let us know she needs to go out. Lately most of her accidents have been while she is out in the room at night when we arent awake to see that she needs to go potty. With a solid routine and making sure she goes potty right before bed, Kiwi should continue to improve on her potty training.
Kiwi is always happy to eat her meals and doesn't mind eating around other dogs. Kiwi can be a little picky about what treats she like. Right now small cat treats, like temptations, are her favorite.
