Updates

Meet Jrue! Jrue is a sweet, shy, and sensitive pup. He is timid in new places with new people but once he warms up, he is such a silly, and affectionate guy. He has made a number of canine and feline friends and has already made so much progress with his confidence. That being said, he will still need a patient family that will give him time to adjust and feel safe but he is totally worth the time needed.

Jrue is a very typical 6-month-old puppy. He spends his days practicing crate training, playing and exploring outside, emptying out the toy box, playing chase with his foster siblings and taking long naps on the couch with his canine friends as the evening winds down. Once he is comfortable, he is a pretty easy pup to have around.

Jrue 99% potty trained. He does pretty well in the crate but will whine for a bit at first, unless someone is in the room with him. A frozen kong or chew treat helps him settle in more quickly. He is crated in an adjacent room while I work for 3-4 hours at a time with a long break at lunch and does well with that schedule. Overnight he is crated across the bedroom from me and settles in very quickly. He sleeps through the night (7 hours) without breaks.

Jrue is nervous meeting and being handled by new people. He settles in fine to new people being around as long as they give him space to get used to them being there (just ignore him). We worked with him a lot, walking through stores like Cabela's, Mounds and Home Depot to gain some confidence with strangers being around him in a new place. He did great and even started to approach strangers for sniffs as long as they weren't paying attention. We also have been working on obedience training and he already knows commands for sit, down, wait, leave it and touch. He is very food motivated and loves to learn new things.

He hasn't met any kids but with how unpredictable kids can be, he would do best in a home without kids. With his foster family, he is excited to greet them every morning and when they get home from work. He excitedly jumps up for pets and attention from them and he loves to snuggle by them on the couch. He bonds hard to the person taking care of him so I would definitely recommend splitting doggy duties if there is more than one adopter so he can connect with everyone equally.

He currently has two adult dogs in his foster home and two puppy playmates. This guy LOVES dog friends and they definitely help him feel more confident. He enjoys play time with the other puppies and will play chase and wrestle until he passes out in his favorite shady spot in the yard or the end of the couch. He would likely do best in a home with another dog that can help show him the ropes and build confidence. He could do fine without another dog but may require more time to adjust to new things.

Jrue does have two kitties in his foster home. He hasn't shown much interest in the cats, even when one of them plays with his tail while he is training. He would do fine in a home with cats but as always, we suggest slow introductions to new animal friends as all cats and environments can be different.

Jrue gets most of his energy out playing with toys, sniffing around the yard and playing with the other pups in his foster home. He is a medium energy dude that likes long naps after play time. We go for walks every morning and he does pretty well on leash. He loves to sniff around so it does take us a bit longer to get through our walk but it has helped him gain confidence. He will sometimes bark if we see a person or another dog when we are walking, this is more so when they are walking towards us (head on). We mostly do our walks in a subdivision or on a trail so a busier neighborhood or downtown area maybe more stressful for him to figure out. He does pretty well in the car but doesn't like to jump in on his own so we are working on that. He rides in the back uncrated and stays put while we drive.

Jrue is still a curious puppy so we crate him when we leave to avoid him finding shoes, cords or rugs to chew on. He will whine a bit when first crated and will sometimes dig in the blankets in his crate but will settle in after a short time.

We have loved having this sweet, silly pup with us and just know that with a patient family, he will continue to blossom into the most amazing pup.
