PUPDATE 2
Jess, aka Jessie, has been working hard on her big girl manners this week! Like any young puppy, we are working on consistency and reinforcement of house rules :) She’s learning to sit and wait for her breakfast and dinner until her human tells her its ready, and she is also learning to sit and wait for treats. She’s also been good at distinguishing dog chew toys from her young human’s toys, but still gets mixed up from time to time. Jessie has been on more walks, has met lots of different sized humans while on leash, and has been very polite and friendly. She has met another young pup for a few lengthy (and tiring) playdates, which went very well.
PUPDATE 1
Jess is currently at a foster home with a dog sibling and 3 young human siblings. She wakes up with the rest of the family around 6:30am, eats, and gets a lot of good play time in before school. Sometimes she walks to school with the kids. During the school day she is either crated (6 hours) or some days her foster mom works from home. On these days she still sleeps a lot. When her kids get home from school she gets more playtime in the yard and lots of snuggles. Then dinner, one last potty break, and off to bed around 8ish.
Jess has been wonderful with all humans and dogs she has met, and has no stranger anxiety.
Jess is very playful and great around her foster kids (ages 6 through 11), and we have no concerns leaving the kids unattended with Jess. She follows their lead and listens to the kids, as they are great playmates. She hasn't met any kids younger than 6.
She is medium to medium-high energy, lots of puppy energy when she has a playmate. She does walk pretty well on a leash for her age, but does find squirrels very exciting and can pull from time to time.
Jess gets along well with our 3-year-old lab mix. She's also had a playdate with a puppy her age, but 1/4th her size, and that was very fun: they ran and played for hours. She is generally excited when we see other dogs on walks, and approaches them in a friendly manner. In the fenced yard she will bark at other dogs who walk by (but not humans).
Jess is very motivated by food, and a bit food possessive, so we currently feed her separately from our resident dog. She can counter surf when unattended, or take food from children's hands if they are walking around the house and not paying attention. During family meals she is polite and does not jump or steal food while we're at the table.
Jess lives with a senior cat right now, and they have kept their distance from one another. Jess has tried to play (chase) the cat, but since the cat showed no interest she now just ignores it.
When crated, Jess will cry for maybe 2 minutes, but then settles down. I've disappeared to a basement office to work for hours, and she is usually sleeping or chewing on a bone inside her crate. She can sleep through the night without using the bathroom, but during the day right now she's never been left for more than 6 hours.
Jess is a great, friendly pup who is fully potty trained and crate trained! She will be a great addition to a lucky person or family!
