Jean Michel is loving life in Madison! He's an adorable little man with heaps of spunk and personality. He loves snuggles and attention and new friends. He's had a couple of play dates with some other dogs and does incredibly well and he's determined to make best friends with our cat. He would love a family with time to play or a friend for him to play with.
JM has made great progress with crate training at night and sleeps for up to 6 hours at this time without issue or accident. We're working up to a full night and have no worries that we'll get there really soon. He's not great in his crate when there's other movement in the house as he has a serious case of FOMO (fear of missing out). We're working on building him up to be better, but it's just so tough when people are doing other really fun exciting things (like showering) and he doesn't understand why he can't be involved. He's also still a great climber, so care should be given if you're trying to get him to stay in any one location.
As mentioned before, JM is incredibly food motivated which makes training him really easy. He's already learned off (most of the time) and sit, and we've only been at it for a week. He still has the occasional accident in the house (1 every 3 days or so), but it's mostly on the puppy pad. He really prefers to pee outside, even if it's only a couple of drops, because he knows he gets a tiny treat.
JM is a great leash walker and takes 3 or so one mile long walks each day. He sometimes lags behind, but it's just that case of FOMO cropping back up as he needs to read all the news on the trail each day.
Jean Michel really is the most adorable sweetheart and will give you all the love and attention that you can handle. He would feel his best in a home that has another friend for him to play with, or with a family that can give him lots of love and affection - he'll give it right back.
Pupdate 1
Jean Michel is adjusting well to his new life in Wisconsin! He's an energetic and happy pup who loves hanging with his new foster parents whether they're in the kitchen, on walks or outside on the patio.
Jean Michel is learning how to potty and crate train, and how not to jump for attention. All are going well and he's a quick learner (especially when there's food involved). As his bio mentioned, he's highly motivated by food, which makes for easy training. He'll eat just about anything though, so it's important to keep a keen eye on him, especially when he's outside or he'll devour a whole stick or pile of acorns if you're not careful.
JM is full of puppy energy and does well with lots of long walks though even that doesn't always get him tired enough to nap. He's at his happiest after a big walk when everyone comes home and hangs out nearby.
JM hasn't been that interested in other dogs while we've been walking, but with social distancing it's hard to tell since we're not that close to others when outside. He has gotten along incredibly well with our cat which has been impressive to see! The cat has hissed right in his face (when we haven't been looking) and JM just turns his head quizzically at the sound - such a sweetheart.
JM really doesn't enjoy being left alone yet, though night time crate time is definitely getting way better. He cries for a bit at night when coaxed into his crate with some fun toys and treats, but he quiets down pretty quickly. He really doesn't like having to be in the crate if he can hear people nearby and he really doesn't like to be left in a room by himself - he'll can and will climb any obstacle to find his people. When you're around though, he's as sweet as pie.
Jean Michel would do best in a forever family that can give him the love and snuggles that he needs often.
