Hoss usually gets up between 7 and 8 am in the morning. He is crated overnight for 8 hours so he could easily make it through the work day. We usually go for a short walk in the morning and a mile walk after work.
Hoss warmed up to us quickly and does the same to guests. He has no problem meeting people and begs for belly rubs by rolling over. He has met several young children on walks and rolled over to ask for belly rubs as well.
Hoss loves to walk and does great on leash, though he will bark at other dogs when he sees them on leash. He keeps up well but with his short little legs, he likely wouldn't be a great running buddy. Hoss is medium energy. He has been going for 2-3 short walks a day. Otherwise he just chews on toys or naps.
Hoss has done well with other dogs but is mainly indifferent/ignores them. Hoss lives with a 70 lb lab mix, without issue. They mostly just avoid each other, though they have been sniffing each other more lately. There have been a couple instances of him growling at our dog if he has a toy and she walks by, though he has only been in our home a week so could still be settling into this new environment. A human can take a toy away with no problem. He lived with three golden retrievers in Texas for a short period of time before coming to Wisconsin and generally ignored them as well. He would do great in a home with or without another dog but if you are looking for a playmate/buddy for your currently dog, Hoss may not be your guy.
Hoss does not currently live with cats. He did meet cats at a family member's house. He barked at them and they ran away.
We have crated him when we leave the house and I have not heard him cry.
Hoss is completely potty trained and sleeps in his crate through the night. He likes to chew but only on dog toys. His foster home in Texas noted he would destroy the toys and also blankets (in his crate or on the couch) if not walked enough.
The vet noted Hoss has some tartar accumulation and will need a dental in the next 1-2 years. In the meantime, he can get dental treats to help prevent future tartar accumulation.
He will occasionally bark when he sees something unusual like a bike or cat, but is getting used to being out and about more. He is very sweet and loves to curl up on a soft blanket with his people.
