Griffin found his family December 23, 2020 in time for the holidays :)
Griffin gets up around 6am to go outside. He then hangs out in his crate with a Kong treat toy while I get ready. Around 8am he eats breakfast, goes outside again, and then is gated in my office while I work for the day. Griffin loves chewing on bones and alternates between that and napping for most of the day. He is still potty training, so he gets frequent breaks outside throughout the day. In the evening he goes in his crate while I walk my dogs and then he gets dinner, followed by another potty break. He plays with the resident dogs, chews his bone, and falls asleep in a dog bed or on the couch by about 8pm. He sleeps in his kennel at night. Griffin is mostly quiet in his crate at night, though he is still potty training so once and awhile he will wake up early in the morning and cry to be let out. When I let him out, he goes to the bathroom pretty quickly and settles down after being let back into his crate.
Griffin can be hesitant with people the first time he meets them, but once he has a change to sniff them and gets some pets, he is very cuddly. He seems to like people a lot, just hasn't had a lot of experience meeting many of them. Outside, Griffin does tend to bark and people walking on the sidewalk, so we are working on redirection and rewarding good behavior with treats.
Griffin has not met many children. He did recently meet a 1-year-old child and did very well. He was curious, but gentle. Griffin is still a puppy and can nip and jump when he's excited, so potential adopters with kids will want to make sure to observe him around kids to make sure he doesn't get too hyper and accidently cause injury. He has not shown any aggression towards humans.
Griffin is a medium energy dog. He has the most energy in the morning after he's let out of his kennel and in the evening after dinner. Griffin doesn't have a lot of experience walking on a leash and is not a fan of the cold Wisconsin weather, so we haven't been on many walks. He does get let outside on a leash and he does ok. Sometimes he'll chew on the leash or decide to be stubborn and pull, but he's easily redirected if I call him excitedly and/or have treats. This is something he will need more practice with.
Since we don't go on walks, Griffin burns off energy by playing with the resident dogs, playing with toys, and chewing on bones. Griffin does a great job playing by himself by chasing around balls or wrestling with a bone.
Griffin has been a little hit and miss with meeting other dogs. He lives with two resident dogs and immediately got along with one, but not the other. He seems to do better with dogs that don't show a ton of interest in him (don't want to constantly play). I don't know that Griffin would do well in a home with other dogs that want to play a lot; he seems to like being able to do his own thing. Griffin does have some resource guarding that we are working on around his toys. He will growl and sometimes nip at my resident dog if he gets close to him while Griffin is playing with a toy. We are working on this by redirecting and rewarding good behavior and Griffin has shown improvement but it's still a work in progress. Griffin has not shown any signs of these behaviors towards people; other than the occasional nip when he's feeling playful he is incredibly sweet and gentle with people.
Griffin has not met any cats.
He is still a puppy and gets into things he shouldn't when left unattended, so he goes in his kennel when I leave the house. Griffin goes into his kennel willingly with treats and a peanut butter Kong treat toy. He cries a little bit initially and when he hears me in the house, but it doesn't take him very long to settle down.
Griffin is an incredibly sweet little puppy. He has a spunky little guy and likes to get into everything but is more curious than destructive. When he has bursts of energy he can play hard, but he naps even harder. He loves getting pets and attention from people and at the end of the night likes cuddling on my lap before falling asleep. Griffin has a streak of sass in him and would benefit from some consistent obedience training to keep him out of trouble as he gets older, but he's an excellent mix of a dog that likes to play and can chill and nap with you on the couch.
