PUPDATE 2
Emma is feeling much better and is almost off her antibiotics. We have continued practicing leash training and she is doing much better. She is still 50/50 on wanting to be outside. She gets spooked easily (ex: if she hears a dog barking and can't see them, she will run away). When she sees a dog or human in passing, she is very curious of them and wants to approach them to get a good smell. We have started command training. She is getting the hang of sit and shake. She is a very intelligent, rowdy pup.
PUDPATE 1
Emma is a typical puppy. She was born in foster care here in Madison to Mama Seairah (last photo). She spends most of the day napping but loves to play and be in the company of her foster family. Emma needs frequent potty breaks (anytime she wakes up, or every hour of being awake). She has had multiple accidents in the house as a young dog. Emma was recently spayed and diagnosed with kennel cough, so she is on antibiotics and taking it easy (not always).
This was Emma's first experience in a dog-less home. It took her about a day to adjust to this new lifestyle, but now her foster family are her bestest friend. She is never far from you. She will follow you around, sit near your feet, and nap in your lap. She curiously watches people that we see in passing. Emma has no exposure to children.
Emma is a medium energy pup. She can only play for so long before taking another nap. Playing with toys is her main form of exercise, she likes playing fetch and tug a war. She is a very good independent player; you can find her chewing on a toy to past the time. She has not spent much time on a leash and seems unsure of it. An adopter should plan to continue leash training to build her confidence. The couple of times that we tried to go on a walk, she only made it so far before deciding that she didn't want to go on.
She had a playdate with a sibling and the other pups of the residence. Emma immediately went into play mode, play fighting with the pups. Emma tends to ignore the cues of the smaller pup to stop wrestling her, so supervision would be necessary to ensure the boundaries of the dogs are respected. Emma has no exposure to cats.
Emma is crated when left alone and at night. Emma will chew on anything she finds (cords, shoes, baseboards, limbs etc.), so she needs close supervision. She does not like being crated during the day, but does not fight it at night. Emma still does not sleep throughout the whole night and will wake up every couple of hours. She mainly wakes up and cries for companionship rather than needing to go outside. After a few calming pets, she is back to sleep.
Emma is a sassy girl! She is not afraid to use her voice and let you know who is boss. She is also very brave and has already tackled the stairs, jumping off the couch and the bed. Emma can also be very sweet and cuddly. She can't wait to find her new best friend.
Emma’s mom had a DNA analysis showing 50% bull terrier, 25.1% chow chow, 8.1% American foxhound, 6.0% German shepherd, 10.8% supermutt. We do not know the breed of Emma’s dad.
