Poor little Dobby has had a rough life. He was found as a stray in Texas and taken to a busy shelter. His hair was very overgrown and matted, and he had to be completely shaved. He arrived to Wisconsin cold, scared, and malnourished. A few days later, he came down with a bad respiratory infection. He needed lots of snuggles for that first week and didn’t feel like doing much of anything other than cuddles. Now he’s finally feeling better and starting to come out of his shell, and it’s so cute to see! He still loves cuddles most of all, but he’s also started to play a bit with my dogs and run around the yard. He has not shown any interest in toys. He LOVES to eat and we have been feeding him a lot so he can gain weight. He has gained 2 pounds since he came into rescue and seems to be close to a healthy weight now.

When I’m gone during the day and at night, Dobby stays in a puppy pen with a doggy bed, a puppy pad and access to food and water. He has extra blankets on his bed and loves to burrow into them. He is perfectly quiet when left alone; I don’t think I’ve ever heard him make a peep. He has to pee every couple hours during the day and usually once at night, so if I’m not home to let him out he will use his puppy pads.

Dobby was found to have some elevated liver enzymes on his bloodwork, so he takes a liver supplement in his food daily and the vet recommended monitoring his bloodwork every 6 months or so. His age has been estimated to be anywhere from 2-7+ years old depending on the vet. I would guess that he’s on the younger side because his teeth are in great shape, but you never really know!

Dobby is the cutest little gremlin who is just the sweetest boy. It’s hard to imagine what he’s been through, but he seems to realize he’s finally safe now and he shows his appreciation by his little tippy taps and his gentle kisses. He loves to be held but is also content to cuddle in his dog bed if you are busy. He doesn’t ask for much and is just about the lowest-maintenance dog you could ask for. He gets along great with dogs, cats and all people. He does like to chase my chickens if he gets the chance, but they seem more amused than concerned about him. After all, they’re twice as big as he is!
