Dino (pronounced Dee-no) is a senior Shih Tzu who came to Fetch after his elderly owner developed health issues and could no longer care for him. He is a sweet old guy who bonds hard with his humans and loves snuggles almost as much as he loves his naps.
Dino currently lives with several other dogs and he does great with them for the most part, although he doesn’t appreciate being bumped into and he will snarl at other dogs if this happens. We give him his own bed by the fireplace and make sure no one else bothers him when he wants his space. He never does this with people - just other dogs.
Dino has a few minor health issues typical with older dogs, but is overall pretty healthy. He has had most of his teeth removed because of severe dental disease, so he eats soft food only. He also has some mild arthritis and a low grade heart murmur. He still loves to go for walks and gets very excited when his leash comes out! But if you don’t feel like walking him, he is just as happy to sleep the day away.
Dino is potty trained but he needs to pee about every 4 hours during the day. He can go about 8 hours at night. If I need to leave him longer than that, he wears a belly band just in case of accidents. He is mostly crate trained but he might cry sadly for a few minutes when he is first put in his crate. He is never very loud and he quiets down quickly. He is also fine being left to free roam when you are gone and he will sleep quietly on his dog bed until you come home.
Dino loves people but he can be a little shy around new people at first and will startle with sudden movements. He is missing an eye, so sometimes he will bump into things on that side and he will startle. I think he would prefer not to live with little kids. I don’t think he would ever be aggressive, but he would probably find them a little scary. He does great with older and calm kids.
Dino is such a sweet, quiet, unassuming little guy and he is hoping for a quiet home where he can sleep away his senior years, go for a few leisurely walks a day, and get lots of snuggles.
